Just bought an 89 CRX..... help me identify it
So i just bought an 89 HF.... sight unseen no test drive or anything, $600.
3 hours later i made it home, no unexpected problems.
well i get home and pop the hood and wtf... no HF manifold... so at first i'm mad but then my friend points out the junkyard writing on the valvecover that reads D15B and some other non-sense....
the car is pretty peppy.. it really suprised me and the tranny gears seemed pretty tight....
so... swap?
can anyone help me narrow down what i have? i'm clueless when it comes to single cams and crx's....
using my vin number what do i use to determine the trim level? the search feature is currently down.
as for the engine, my neighbor thinks it may be a newer dx swap or si swap.... he isn't too sure either. it does not have MPFI though... so i'm lost... then again, it's late, dark, and i'm tired... so maybe it does and i just didn't notice... it's too chilly to go check now.
any help is appreciated
-Erik <---- broke traction shifting into 3rd twice on the way home, yessssss

i found this picture online of a guys "D15B" not b1 or b2, just plain ol "b"
i have the same intake/fuel setup.
my valvecover is the same... if it matters...

note the engine bay isn't the same... just the engine/intake

the car runs great... i mean flawlessly great... aside from the throw out bearing that whines.... what would be the advantage of going to a MPFI setup and what are the costs involved?

It was either wet or your clutch was slipping.

of course it will.. i use to gun my D15 around when i had it, and i would lose traction when it was wet
Its definitely a D15b2 for sheezy... why he would swap a D16y7 in there i wouldn't know...

the clutch grabs hard, definatly not slipping. and it wasn't raining. the 13" tires might have had something to do with it though... hehe
so you guys have totally confused me. have we all pretty much come to the conclusion that i have a motor other than that which came in it originally? and is the general opinion that the lack of mpfi is a little less than normal with this motor?

here's actual pics...
note there is no corrosion/oxidation anywhere inthe engine bay except the motor... this is why i'm assuming it is not the originall... that and the writing on the valve cover of course.

any more ideas for me... ?

Does the car say HF on it? Does the title say HF on it? Nevermind what it says on the valve cover. Check the engine code stamp. Also, under the bumper cover, there will be a big metal bumper on the dx and just two large tabs that go under the bumpar lights on the HF. Good luck...
looks like you got yourself a dx... since si and hf were both mpfi...
so yeah.. engine code should be a d15b2, and you have a crx dx.. so i have no idea WHY it would lose traction in 3rd...

If the motor says "D15B" and nothing else, its a japanese motor. If it is D15B1 or D15B2 its is USDM. There are different variations of the D15B in japan, there's even a carbureted engine...
