Z6 vs Y8
Sorry modified post yesterday because of no responses, was actually asking about the transmissions. I am either getting a z6 or y8 transmission and was curious which I should go with to compliment my z6 engine. thanks

Both engines are pretty much the same thing...
d16y8: obd2, like 2 more hp than the z6, higher compression, y8 tranny has the steel shift fork
d16z6: obd1, tranny has aluminum shift fork..
You wouldn't be able to feel the difference between the 2 engines, both are good.

Basically the only real advantage is that the d16y8 has a little higher compression, which bumps the hp numbers up by 1 or 2.
There may be very little things that are different between the 2 like..
the d16z6 head is said to flow better and have a bigger or smaller combustion chamber..i forgot..if someone would answer that..
The d16y8 intake manifold and tranny are better than the z6's due to the bigger plenium and longer runners on the IM, and the steel shift fork in the y8 tranny's.
The z6 oil pump flows more oil and the y8 is said to have an oil starvation problem..
Lets just say that you'll be fine with either engine and I bet you would not notice the difference between the two.

lots of info here http://sohchonda.com/ipw-web/gallery/Mikes-gallery
major difference id say b/e teh 2 the combustion chamber makes the biggest diff.
(if someone didnt want to have the pics linked to this board tell me)
