Virgin Tranny Swap. Shift Link Trouble? Will My Plans Cut It?
So something inside my tranny is fucked, I thought it was the throwout bearing so I changed that 2 weeks ago, started it up and it was still bad so its something interal.
So I orderred a new Si trans off of here and I have to swap it on
You might be saying "hes already done basically a tranny swap, why complain?"
Well when I did the throwout bearing all i did was unbolt the mounts and kind of pry the bottom of the tranny about 6 inches away so I change the throwout bearing and put it all together
Now I read in my manual that the VSS is a bitch to remove, the shift linkage...
Can anyone offer some help on what the shift linkage is so hard to remove? Quick easy way to get around it? What exactly is the common problem?
My VSS is already broken so I didnt have to worry bout unhooking it but I do have to swap my broken **** onto the new tranny to cover the hole, tricky?
Everything else to me should be a breeze, might have some trouble getting the tranny far enough away from the motor to drop it.
Can anyone guesstimate how far away the tranny has to be before I can drop it?
BTW- Doing it with 2 jack stands and a shitty jack lol on the floor 8 hour deadline

Ive got an air hammer with my new air compressor, dont no if it came with the right extension for it though, never tried to use it before
Never though of just removing the shifter form mid car, is it just 4 10/12mm bolts and it drops to the ground out of the car? Never actually touched it before, jsut clanced at it while playing with my exhaust

You sure it wasn't the input shaft bearing? What symptoms was it showing? A "chattering" or whining noise that went away when you pushed in the clutch?

The chatterring was almost non existant at idle but w/ clutch depressed at idle it would come on
Id also hear it heavily in 1st and 2nd and part of third until I picked up some speed
Car also had absolutely no power in any gear
Was told it was my throwoutbearing by like 15 people on here, changed it and it didnt solve it. Id rather just swap in my new tranny that is known good before playing with this piece

The only bad part about the shift linkage connection would the pin that connects it to the housing of the transmission. If you have the correct size punch pin this problem will be reduced to a few taps of a hammer.
