Cleaning Cold Air Intake Filter
I lost my instructions I had for my AEM Cold Air Intake. I think its about time to clean the air filter. I forgot what it said, something like rinse it off and then let it dry, but do i have to oil it again? thanks
The AEM intakes used to come with K&N filters, and even the new ones coming out now with the AEM filter still use the K&N style cotton gauze filter. So, you can go to PepBoys, or any auto parts store and get the K&N filter charger cleaning kit. It's about $10, and there are instructions on it.
First, knock off some of the excess dirt by gently tapping it on the ground.
Next, spray it with the K&N cleaner solution and let it soak in for a few minutes.
Next, wash the filter out. You should spray the water from the inside of the filter to the outside, so that all the dirt (which is on the outside of the filter anyway) will fall off. Don't spray with too strong a force of water, and NEVER use anything such as compressed air to clean the filter.
Once the filter is clean, let it air dry
Once the filter is completely dry, spray the new K&N oil on the filter and you're good to go.

Yeah, definately get the K&N cleaning kit, and follow the instructionis carefully.
Those things are not fun to clean, 'cause they take a while to dry, and all you want to do is drive your car!
