4spd => 5spd trans swap
Did search, no results. I think most people wait to do the engine swap, but I've got the parts (I think) and this trans is waste. Here's whats' up. I've got a d15 91 civic hatch. It's got a 4spd std that's...pretty much shot in 3rd gear. Ok the synchs were gone a whiel ago and I kept driving and now it has to be babied. So I went out and got the 5spd from a D15. I thought it was just a simple swap but from what I understand there's more to it. Has anyone done this swap that might know? I wanna change out, but I heard I need new axles, clutch, flywheel (which I would expect) and some other things. Anyone know if this is right?
I'm thinkin' "ve gotta drop the transmission to count this don't I...haha. Aight, but the 5spd IS 21tooth? I need a new clutch anyways, so this is a good opportunity to do it all at once. So far on my shopping list:
21 tooth 5spd clutch
5spd. transmission
-Right? The CV Axles I'm using are the reman 26tooth style. again, please post corrections on my errors...

well i did the same swap when i had my 89 Std. (lol) but anyways, as long as you use the same year Trans you shouldn't have to buy any thing else. but when i did it i bought a 88 Si trans and the splines were Diff, than the 89 so i just had to get new cutch. but the axles were the same. i think how it goes is..... you have to put 88 with 88 and 89 with 89 and 90-91 with 90-91. but i just sold my POS Std and got the real deal, "Si" so i hope this helped you got any more Q's just holla

the Standards have the lower spline count on the axle side. 21 instead of 26, or something like that.
My bro has an 88 std, we put a 90 dx 5 speed in, no extra parts needed. you just have to re-use the standard axles, or replace the hubs if you want the dx axles.
For the 88 crx, i dont know, bc ive never owned one. but find out if it has the lower spline count on the axle side, and then just use the correct axles so that the spline count is right on the tranny side.

but you used a new clutch w/ the 90 dx 5spd.. the 88 has a different # of teeth. there's no way a 90 tranny slid onto an 88 w/o changing the clutch. unless the previous owner swapped it over b4...
but he's all correct on the axles.. 88-91 all fit
