Default interested in 5th gen. Please help out

Hey whats up. I'm gettin ready to get rid of my civic and get a 5th gen. lude. I cant decide between the base model and the sh model. I know the sh has the traction control and a few other things but is it really worth it to pay the extra money for it? How is the straight line acceleration of both? Which one is faster? Is it really true that the sh model has 5 more horsepower? thanks to anyone who responds and helps out thanks.

The SH may have 5 more HP (thats always in dispute) but it's drained by the ATTS system.

Unless you're roadracing, I'd go with the base, it's a little less expensive.

I thought they both have the H22A4 in them. you'd know more than i would though. just curious about that.

SH never had more hp than base. they were always equal.

dont waste your money on the SH. it comes with ATTS, diff rims, and spoiler. not worth $3k in my opinion.

it doesnt matter that they have the same engine. because the 97 lude and 01 lude both have the h22a4, but the 97-98's have 195hp and the 99-01's have 200hp. i think thats what JG was referring to. these numbers are for the 5spd (base AND sh).

thats correct, And the reson there is a 5 HP difference is cause the 99-01 have a more efficient exhaust manifold.

also If you plan on doing turbo or supercharger DONT get the SH. If the car sees boost it will throw a CEL and de-activate ATTS. And it also makes tuning a lot harder.

Also there's that whole "two cam profiles" thing that has never been proven/disproven. Helms says one thing, Honda parts catalog says another.

Basically it depends on whether you REALLY want to corner a little better or not.

Don't waste the extra money on an SH prelude. The money you save, you can just make a base model a whole lot better than the SH model. Just be sure to buy a 5spd prelude and not an automatic

yea i have to agree, the SH isnt worth it for the price. Not to mention its what 86 pounds heavier or something like that, which isnt much, but it is something. Get a base and mod it with the money left over.

yes sh model weighs about 100 lbs more. same horsepower as base. 99+have 200hp and 97 & 98 have 195hp. for the money you are spending like $3000 for a spoiler, painted skirts, different shift ****, leather seats, sh decal, atts system. don't bother. you wanna know why they stopped making the sh in 2000?? because honda had problems with the atts system. you couldn't fix it themselves. you would see the light on for service or something is wrong. take it to honda and everything will be good for a few days and light comes on again. you never could figure out what was wrong or if anything was wrong to have to waste your time taking the car in. i bet a lot of you out there didn't know that?? looks like honda will only make an se model now fully loaded. atts system only works when you actually hit a corner hard enough anyways. base is faster, cheaper, you will get more for your $3000 if you used it right.

Kaaz and Quaife make these goofy little things called limited slip differentials. Put one in a base model 5G and you'll corner better than the SH and you'll save some weight and won't have to mess with check engine lights.

well don't know about the usa, but in canada sh comes with leather as a standard. not worth the money to buy the sh or to buy an aftermarket slip differential set up. you ain't driving indy styles here.

First off the SH DOES have 5 more hp then the base, I own a 98 SH and the HP on it is 200 where as the base has 195, the new prelude have 200 and the SH models have 205. the HP difference is in the transmission, the transmission is very different on both cars. I owned a 97 base before this one and the handling difference is so much better. I really think that it is all a matter of opinion on which one you should get but I think that the SH is awsome.
