Default how many of you ride in the winter?

Just bought a bike, not sure if its worth insuring and tagging for the winter..

How many of you ride in the freezing temperatures, and what do you wear?

Riding hard for my first winter in NY. (first with a bike)
Im thinking lower tire pressure to counteract poorer traction when its cold.

Right now i wear a sweatshirt, leather jacket, gloves, jeans, 2 pairs of socks, and boots. I just need to find a good way to keep my neck warm.

I have textile overpants, that have a insulated lining, i will wear fleece over my leather jacket and thermals under the jacket. I wear a neck gaitor to keep the wind from freezing my neck and my chin. My fingers are what i worry most about. nothing i have tried has worked so far.

My cutoff temperature is 40 degrees.

On a cold day, this is what I wear:
Gortex lined Army 'Matterhorn' boots.
Polypropylene Army issue undergarments
Jeans over the poly
Sweatshirt over the poly - 100% cotton
Joe Rocket Meteor jacket with liner.
Thick leather gloves.
HJC helmet with all the vent holes taped off except the one in the rear.

The cold spots that exist with this gear are small air leaks through the helmet, most notably the neck area and my gloves, they are not insulated.

If I were to ride in anything colder than 40, I would add headsock (or a better helmet that leaks less), heated gloves and JR Meteor pants.

Cold hands react slowly, so make sure you go overboard with the cold weather gloves. This is a very important safety issue when cold weather riding, do not underestimate this!

I don't ride in the winter much, I already have'nt been out for the last three weekends due to cold temps. However I only use my bike for pleasure up in the mountains, I very rarely commute it around the city. The rocky mountains are already pretty damn cold this time of year.

My cut off is about 40 as well but what I found to help a lot is using a fleece neck sleeve and it has a thin liner that come up over your head and it cancels out all wind coming up thru your chin. Makes the cold day rides much warmer.

And all you fla., cali, tx, and az riders are some year round riding bitches

if you plan on riding in winter, the first thing to do is spend the $30 and get heated grips, this alone will let you ride in 10 degree cooler weather.

when its real cold i have on midweight Marmot long johns, fleece pants and fleece top , my textile moto gear and a fleece neck gator. i like to say 40 degrees is my cutoff, but i have been out in much colder and even got caught in the snow before

i am looking at getting heated gear this winter, or i could just fix my civic, my wife stole my A4. when i asked her if she wanted to drive the civic she said "hell no, the audi has heated seats!" lol

Go to your local Army Surplus store...It's called a "Baclava" or something....But its pretty much like a thin mask made for helmets that covers everything except the area around your eyes....same material and everything that companies sell claiming its for motorcycles...but for a cheaper price...

I got mines for $8 and it kept me really warm when I rode at night here in socal when it was pretty cold.....That plus the fogshield i bought from Marmalade and I'm all good upstairs.....

They sell them at powersports stores too. They're called balaclavas. Baklava is a Greek pastry.
