Jeebus. I thought the framerate was off when the video started. I'm not even sure I'd want to go that fast.

Jon didn't you say just a few weeks ago that buying something like this wasn't any good because the fields we're big enough.

Of course, that's before you drove one......

I don't have a watch here at the office - what kind of lap time are you turning in it Jon?

Good stuff. I stand by my assertion that one day, somehow, I will have one.

Yes. We all do. Trust me.

Matt just yesterday was describing repacking the CVs. I should stress that this is done as preventitive maintenance...NOT a repair from the thing destroying a CV joint *again* like with my car. From what I remember, he undid the nut at the hub, undid some other thing at the trans, and out it came.

No hammers, no prybars, no penetrating oil. No popping ballojoints loose and destroying the boot *again*. At no point did he have to crawl under a dirty, greasy, leaking old sedan. No more removing an impossible amount of *working* components in order to get to the part that needs servicing. Everything is just right there.

Seems like a pretty sweet deal to me.

--Karl, looking at that home equity loan offer he just got...

I've gotten to work on a Van Diemen recently and I must say, even a relatively old and beat-up open-wheel car was cake to work on, except the pedal box. I want a DSR. I want one. I want one real bad.

Ahhh, the lure of "wings n things". The rate of speed and performance envelope of a sports racer is intoxicating. Yeah I would love one too. I wonder just how cheap the "older radicals" are going to get. I saw a Cheetah DSR for sale locally for about 10K and have seen it run twice on track when I was pit out marshall for a Solo 1 event. For an "old" sports racer that car is soooo fast and brakes soooo late. sigh.

I got a ride with Jon in one of those things last week at the FunktionAuto track event. They have two types of tires they use. One is an unshaved DOT tire (looks like the Yoko A32 or an intermediate rain tire) the other is an Avon slick.

We were timed in the 20's with the DOT tire. Jon got down to a 1:17 with the Avon tire.

The car doesn't feel as fast down the straight (I've been in his Challenge car at over 150 mph) but I nearly wet my pants the first time he went down the shoot into 5

Mike

Karl, Mike, Matt, and Everyone else............

We didn't run the Avon slicks yesterday. We ran the Dunlop Forumla V tire which is full tread DOT tire. It's a good tire for this car since many will use it as a track day car. We ran mainly 1:19's when the tires were new. We now have about 10 hours on them and they have been heated up too many times. Fastest lap of the day was a 1:19.6 by Brian Downing followed by a 1:19.8 which I did in the morning but mostly did 20's and 21's as the say progressed.

I've did a 1:17.4 with the slicks at Summit last week. The advantage with the slicks are obvious the minute you go through the carosel. With the street/DOT tires the power can't be put down early as you will simply understeer off the track. At the end of the day I couldn't put the power down with any authority in T3.

Some things to remember..........first off the car is not mine, second I am not all that experienced with downforce cars, and third the car is still set up with factory settings which I feel has too much understeer dialed in (remember they are targeting the average track day participant).

I am confident the car can do 1:15 with the right driver and the right set up. I also was misinformed previously that the cars had 1500 engines. They are in fact 1300's (210 hp or so). With another 50 hp....who knows maybe the car could break into the 13's.

For me the same issues are present as with the Challenge car. The car is simply too fast for track days and I am not sure I'd want to race one. At most track days and HPDE's even the fastest drivers in street cars (even race prepped ones) are hard beat to crack 1:25's at Summit. It would get boring real fast lapping folks at 15 seconds per lap.

I think the future of this car is to sell enough of them to start a series or revive D and C sport at the regional level.

For the money, though it's pretty damn good............at least until Chad builds his Turbo Hatch

Cheers,

Jon
