Thinking of buying a CRV!
What are the problems experienced most often in the awd models? My wife wants to trade her 94 Accord for one. The Accord has been amazingly reliable. Will the CRV give the same kind of seervice?
There aren't many issues, mostly minor TSB's (technical service bulletins).
Other than that a couple of recalls early on in the new generations run (2003)...This is directly from http://www.alldata.com
# 03-047 OCT 03 Recall - A/T Shift Cable Control Pin Corrosion
# 02-044 AUG 03 Recall - Throttle Cable Drum Contamination
No such issues are present on the 2004 models (which my wife owns). The new CR-V is a major improvement in ALL aspects [power, ergonomics, overall design, handling, and economy] compared to the 1998 CR-V we owned (bought it used) for a year and a half. Although I am personally a car guy and against the whole SUV thing, I feel better knowing that my wife and our 5 month old are in an awd vehicle, even if the system isn't the most advanced out there.

I had a 2000 CRV and the only problem I had was at 30000 miles. I got a screehing noise when I was turning. This was do to the type of oil used in the rear end. It is to be changed out at 30000 anyway. The change cured the problem and other than that I had no other problems until I traded it in Last December. I purchased a new 2004 in Dec.2003 and found it had alot better Transmission and more horsepower which was better in the mountains. I take mine to Colorado when i go sking and the AWD works great for us. Love the car and the wife uses it most of the time. IG, Marshall, TX.

It's caled Dual Pump Fluid, the car takes a little over a quart of it. Serves the purpose of acting like a locking agent, similar to the viscous differentials in the 1991-1997(?) Nissan Sentra SE-R's.

Well If this counts for anything, I've had my honda cr-v for 120,000 miles and no major problems, just normal maintenance, which hasnt even ran me more than 300$ in 5 years.

The 05's are significantly improved compared to the 02-04's. They all have side airbags, side curtain airbags, ABS, VSA, EBD, larger wheels, smaller rear sway, wider rear track, redesigned headrests (rears are lower to see out the back better. etc. They even have an SE model that has color keyed bumper covers, door handles, and side mouldings like the Canadian ones.
I have an element 34k on it so far no problems short of the windshield cracking twice. Great car very versatile i like it better then the crv personally. There is no aftermarket at all which is good and bad. Good because i will have an unmolested daily driver and bad because i am driving a stock car.
i have a 98 with 112k miles and only problem experienced is the recall on the ignition switch...and have to make sure ur brake pads are honda or they squeek pretty bad
I'm buying a new CRV. Is the extended warrenty worth getting? It's about $2,100 to push the warrenty out to 7 years and 100k miles. It includes about 3 years or 37k miles of scheduled maintenance too.
We have a 2001 and its awesome. Bought it used. Got a good deal. Ours is a EX and automatic, love to drive one with a manual, but it is my wife's and she doesnt like to drive stick trans. The only thing we wished it had was more power. I'd rather have a realible car than a ton of power that breaks down. AWD works great here in Michigan on the snow and ice. A lot of room and it rides nice. Can't beat Honda quality, 26-30mpg, AWD, Resale value, and room for 4 adults. Nice...
Good Luck!!!
