Carbon Fiber Overlay Complete Interior!?!?!?
Has anyone here done a CF overlay on a dash before? I am planning on doing this for my 94 EX 4dr. What I actuly want to do is overlay most of the interior in CF. Things such as the vents and other small parts I want painted the same color as the car, since they are probably to hard to overlay anyhow. I mainly want the dash completley redone in CF as well as the interior molding pannels, the console, the stearing column, and the major panels on all 4 doors. I would like to do the celing as well but... I'm not sure how would look so thats on hold. The rest of the interior pannels and peices would be painted White Diamond (Caddy's Pearl), to match the exterior. How hard do you all think it would be for me to overlay this much of the interior. I have never done it before and dont want to waste money if its too hard. I worked as a laminator for 2years so I can lay this and heat shape it as needed. Please let me know what you think.
Buddyclub2.com Overlays of 95 Civic dash:

On the buddyclub2.com website right beside this pic it says,"Not only can we produce great-quality custom fiberglass work, but we can also overlay just about anything with real carbon-fiber". So I'm thinking this is an overlay. I also thought the first time I saw it that it was a solid CF dash, especialy after looking at the inner area. But... I'm just goin by what the site says.
its not too dificult to overlay something. and carbon fiber isnt all that expensive. Look in your local yellow pages for a plastics supply shop. they usually carry fiberglass supplies and will likey have spools of carbon fiber and kevlar along with standard fiberglass.

Theres a guy on Ebay thats selling them.... he from Central NY and there going for like $300.... its a complete carbon dash.
Sometimes I wonder what dictates what you people like....
It's a gaudy, not very much lighter than stock, 300 dollar dash that is going to glare in your eyes so badly that you can hardly drive the car...

If its an overlay, it doesn't reduce any weight. A complete CF dash? Why bother, again the weight won't be significant enough to warrant it.

Notice the ppl that think its awesome have less then 15 posts. Still in the ricer-stage...
The glare would be extreme.
I fiberglassed and painted my dash and there is more glare but its not that bad actually. I personally am not into the carbon fiber thing but I personally dont think this looks that bad if thats your gig.

If you are looking into doing it yourself it will require alot of knowledge with carbon fiber because theres no room to make a mistake (ie no bondo work).

The glare was the first thing that popped into my mind when I saw it, too. The finish isn't textured, and the gloss will reflect a lot of bright light. Not good.
Not to mention I wouldn't want to be bashing my face/knees/extremities off that thing in a wreck . . .
That thing might be trick for a show car - but for a daily driver, no thanks.

My thoughts exactly. I hand't thought about the accident possibility, but whacking my face on that doesn't sound like too much fun either.

not like that 1/24" vinyl covering is protecting you from much. besides thats what airbags are for right?

Maybe it's not protecting you from much, but if I've got the choice of leaving it alone and having that small amount of padding to spending money to make it rock hard for me to smack my head on in an accident, I'll stick with the factory padding.

Hell no! That **** would hurt.
Although, the best plan of action is DON'T WRECK!!!

That looks good, but I would change 2 things:
1. EG dashes are already the ***** in regards to glare, so adding more seems pretty assinine. Using dry cf (no gloss, like BTCC cars of old) would fix that problem.
2. The EG dash has not aged well at all. The styling looks very dated, especially the full length texturing/groove. Taking the time with CF to form something a little more modern would be ideal.
All in all, not a bad looking dash, but impractical for the street.
