9 sec SFWD/T4 approved roll cage
***UPDATED POST AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE***
I think its time to talk about this for upcoming SFWD & T/4 racers (by the way)
I have a 6 point roll cage (from Kens Custom Chassis) in a 92 civic h/b and I would like to know what I need to add to the cage to make it legal to run 9s for SFWD & T/4. I ran faster than I expected so I want to add the safety equipment needed first and then worry about running a 9. I know not that many fwd street cars have 9 sec approved cages so I need as much info as possible.
Also I from what I understand you need some kind of license to run 9s. Can someone please explain this process and what is needed to do so.
Lets get some good info here b/c I know that alot of other people are going to be aiming for the 9s next season.
Thanks
Tommy

A 9second cage is a 9second cage no matter weather it's a street car or not..
But you need a 10pt cage, not sure on the thickness required, basically in addition to a 6pt, you need to add bars going from the main hoop foward to the a pillars, bars from the floor to the to the roof up the a pillars, and the a bar across the front connecting the a pillars...
Pictures of cunhas 10pt cage
Then you need to get it 9second certified by either a shop that can certify it or at an event when one of the proper personal is there... usually between $75-$125 to get certified from my experience..
When you go 9's you also have to get, SFI Pants, SFI Gloves, and SFI Neck Collar, also I beleive you not need to have Double Layer Fire jacket.
To get your 9second liscesne you have to get the application, go get a physical, then go to a nhra track and make 6 passes, 2 60ft, 2 half track and 2 9second passes though, some tracks will allow 140mph + passes. You have to have each run signed off by 2 drivers already liscensed and then signed by the track manager.
Then submit timeslips and application to NHRA and await your liscense
Yea, i think thats bout it... have had 2 friends go through this already, and not a 3rd cunha will have to do this.
Hope that helps

On full bodied cars swingouts are legal up to 7.50.
Check out the rulebook at nhrasportcompact.com...the rollcage requirements are very specific and its all laid out (even has a diagram

Depends on where you are, we also build roll cages to spec. For more information, you can check it out here:

Here is a picutre of the 94-01 Integra Roll Bar

Or we can send you the bends, plates everything needed that is all within specification and fitted and jig'ed and all you have to do is find someone to weld it together.

What if I already have the side bars welded to the ground?
I noticed in that pic that it is connected to the pillar bars... any suggestions?

Ok, well after seeing pics of these cages & in person I am even more worried that I wont be able to add points to my cage and even have to cut it out...here are some pics that I took recently to show you what I'm talking about. I would like to get some advise or opinions from what you see in these pics & a few things I've observed
HERE ARE PICS OF MY CAGE, TAKE A LOOK (first 3 pics are my car)

NOW LOOK AT THESE PICS...SEE THE DIFFERENCE...THE MAIN HOOPS IN THESE PICS ARE PARALLEL TO THE PILLAR

ANOTHER THING THAT BOTHERS ME IS THAT I WOULD LIKE TO ADD THE 2 BARS IN THE FRONT TO BE LEGAL TO RUN 9s....BUT MY SIDE BARS ARE WELDED TO THE FLOOR...SEE FOR YOUR-SELF, THEN LOOK AT THE PICS AFTER
(first two pics are my car)

NOW NOTICE THAT THE SIDE BARS ARE WELDED TO THE FRONT BARS THAT ATTACH TO THE HALO BARS

Is this something I should worry about or what can be done to fix this problem???
Remember, I am trying to be legal to run 9s...I have already passed 135mph traps so this is still necessary even though I haven't even run a 9 yet.
Thanks for your input

It is necessary for 135+ but is not usualy enforced. You should be ok, they can weld the other bar to the floor in from of your side bars. One last thing, make sure you get a full 10 point. 8 points used to be legal but by reading the rules now, you need the full 10 points. Window Net is also required for 9s
