So what are you guys doing with your car's this winter? Let's try to avoid reposts and get some good info in this thread. Please share ALL information on what you do with your car over the winter. Long term storage or otherwise. If you plan on driving your car over the winter feel free to join in on what you do to minimize the effect of winter driving on your car.

I personally have a garage I rent out from November through Aprilish. I was going to just park it on some thick carpet but I heard its better for the tires to just take the wheels off and stack them in 2's. Do you guys use any fuel stabilizer or anything like that? Any other maintenance stuff you guys do? I usually at least try to start it every other week to keep it fresh. Once spring comes I usually do spark plugs, full tank of gas and a fresh oil change.

Take the wheels of and store it on jack stands with the suspension fully extended. If you definatly not gonna run it for awhile add fuel stabilizer. dont store tires in a real cold enviroment. Thats all i can think of.

for the winter i throw steelies on and put my rims in the basement and drive the car on nice days in the winter, my everyday car is a 99 ford crown vic ex vermont state trooper car

 

I'll drive my BMW instead.

My baby's going to sleep in the back yard till around March or so. During the time, I'll probably be collecting parts for new mods, etc. Planning to go from B16 to B18.

 

I'm throwing on stock steelies! I also plan to seafoam, change oil and plugs before it starts to really snow.

i love my crown vic... cops wave n flash their highbeams at you thinking your a det or something... cuz they cant see inside the 5% tint... everyone slows down next me n no one ***** with me... its a good low key car... and for 2500 i cant argue

 

Hmm probably replace the old sun rotted windsheild wipers for the SoCal sprinkle storms.

 

This year my bro took off out west and i got to put his car away for the winter.
a good experience i suppose anyway this is what i did.

Parked it in our small barn here in the country.
jacked it up onto some blocks to the suspension hung free.
Took the wheels\tires off and releived the pressure also stored them in a not so cold enviroment.
pulled the battery.
covered the muffler\intake so no rodents could get in.
Covered the interior front seats with bags so they wouldn't get chewed if something got in(damn mice)
rolled the windows down a crack to breath and added a nice fresh air freshener.
Put a cover over the car.
We made sure there was the least amount of gas possible in the tank.
covered the front knuckle\caliper rotors up.(whocares about them back drums)

Thats it basically, another good tip was for those is the situation worried about any rodents. Some peppermint oil from any health food store will apparently keep them away because of its smell and all that.( read an article in a newspaper on it)

how about any tips for people who are actually going to drive thier civic in the winter. (not bashing on those who store it)

 

If you own a del sol you better condition the top seals. I used white lithium grease.

That has to be the most annoying thing. Doesnt everyone slow down to like 5 under the speed limit when your behind them?

 

if u do have to drive your civic in the snow, and its lowered and have lips on it... be careful... a few winters ago i lost one of my lips it was basically plowin the snow while i was driving and the pressure broke it off my bumper and ran it over and that was the end of it

 

nah makes me feel like am the man... jk i rather people drive normal around me then drive like ********... ive had a few bad accidents in my life and none were ever my fault.

 

throw on my ls mesh rims with dunlop tires and store the grids/azenis til spring. gotta love cali weather. no rust for me.

Yeah, if anyone on this site is going to try Azenis in the snow, I'll go ahead and say it's a bad idea right here. I tried it ONE time, ever. It's terrifying.

 

id say steelies, thick floor mats, a visit to the car wash daily, maybe 2X daily, no e-pulls in the snow, and NO plowing

 

aww why no E-pulls in teh snow? (seriously I want to know this) thats one of my favorite moves in the winter when no one is around... or if the car doesnt want to turn..... (going slow not super fast for anyone wanting to get me for being stupid)

My sister boyfriend drives one of those... I got to drive it once, I saw some guy who must of been going at least 80 go past right as I was turning onto the road. I quick punched it and got right behind him pretty close. He quickly slowed down to 55 and stayed there until I passed him ^_^

Winter is the funnest time to drive. I used to drive a RWD car. I got the tires spinning up to 80 all the time while I was sitting still. Its also fun to get going about 25-30 and slam into snow banks ^_^

Would someone please explain to me the LOGIC behind actually doing this??? A car should NEVER be set on blocks for any type of term storage!!

When I store my car every winter I clean it well and wax it before I put it in the garage. I have a good breatheable car cover for it as well. I change the oil and fill up the gas tank with Supreme (I always use it anyway but it has the longest shelf life, read storage life to it) and add a fuel stabilizer or at the very least a gas line antifreeze to it to protect from moisture. I place a small square piece of carpet under each tire and pump all tires up to 35 psi. I disconnect the battery and hook it up to a trickle charger to keep it fully charged and will usually start the car and let it run for a bit every 2 weeks or so to keep all the internals lubricated and prevent uneven valve spring tensions. When I take it out in the spring I adjust the tire pressures and change the oil again, that's it.

 

My thoughts were it was better to have the body supported while the suspension was losse.
No load, so just like it would be in a box or on a shelf. As opposed to supporting the weight of the car for 7 months(yes, yes...Canada)
