what kind of bike?

if you can get your hands on a service manual for it it will tell you more than you ever wanted to know about your bike

If you can work on cars then you can work on bikes -bikes just have everything compact.

There are some books out for this exact topic - go to Barnes and Noble and look in the auto section (you can read free or buy em if ya want).
