Attn: Texas Racers... Next import drag event???
Ok, people suggested we start a new thread on organizing a Texas drag event, so here it is. There's already an Import Face-Off in Houston on January 23rd, but it's going to be at Houston Motorsports Park which is only a 1/8th mile track. The event will probably be more of a car show than a race.
A lot of people suggested having an event at San Antonio Raceway (River City Raceway). We can do an event there, but we'll need as much help as possible with advertising and getting the word out. Sponsor support from some of the local shops would be great too. If enough people on this board show interest, we'll do it!
Those who are interested, please post opinions/suggestons... classes? payout stucture? etc... The event will probably be on Sunday February 6th, 2005.
Shops, if you'd like to support such an event, please call me @ 225-335-6428 or email hybridentertainment78@yahoo.com The more support, the better chance of getting this event going.

I'll keep everyone posted with details once they're set in stone...

Awesome. Let me know what i can do to help. I just got back from SEMA so now I was able to catch up on h-t.
Ok, what's planned so far...

All Motor Quick 4 - $500 - 1st $400, R/U $100
Bracket 14.99 and Faster
Bracket 15.0 and Slower

Any transmission allowed. Full tube chassis prohibited. Back-half chassis and tubes are not allowed. Wheelie bars permitted but cannot touch the ground at the starting line. Only OEM 4-cylinder motor entries allowed. Any type of exhaust allowed.
Street Class Quick 8 Heads –Up Pro-tree (.400) class for Unibody vehicles with functional doors. D.O.T tires allowed. Slicks are prohibited. Any 4 and 6 cylinder, 2 rotor and 3 rotor entries allowed. No air-cooled entries permitted. No restriction on power adder type or combination thereof. Any transmission allowed. Lexan windows may be used for rear hatch only. Front seats must remain inside vehicle. Full tube chassis prohibited. Back-half chassis and tubes are not allowed. Wheelie bars prohibited. Must run at least one muffler with exhaust system that exits behind or within 12 inches from the rear wheels.
All Motor Quick 4 Heads-Up, Pro-tree (.400) class for naturally aspirated stock import chassis FWD vehicles and/or RWD vehicles from any other manufacturer allowed. No power adders allowed. Any transmission allowed. Import vehicles may run 4,5, & 6 cylinder motors, as well as 2,3, & 4 rotor motors. Domestic manufactured vehicles are limited to 4 cylinder engines. Slicks allowed for FWD vehicles only. RWD limited to DOT approved tires. Any type of exhaust allowed.
Please post suggestions and opinions. This is our event so we can make it how ever we want. Would racers rather the FWD Quick 8 payout structure more spread out? Instead of $1000 1st, R/U $200, how about $700 1st, $300 1st R/U, $200 2nd R/U? Let me know...
Again, this event could use all the help it can get. Shops, if you'd like to support the race and get some good advertising out of it, please PM me or send me an email.

My Questions:
1. How much to Race?
2. How much to Spectate?
3. Rollcage requirements?
4. Where do we register?
Comments:
1. I would spread the payouts a little bit more so that even if someone comes in 2nd then it still makes it worth their wild for coming.
2. If you did First, Runner Up, and Second Runner up how would you decide on the Second Runner up? Would it be determine by time?

$35 to race one of the heads up classes. $20 for bracket.
Spectator will probably be $13 with flyer coupon (Regular $15).
Roll Cage? Depends on SAR... I hear they're pretty lenient though.
All registration will be at the front gate the day of the show.

Awesome. I am really glad that you stepped up and did something.

Since you are asking for suggestions. I think FWD quick 8 should be split up between the street cars and the race cars. At the two IFO races I went to last season, these rules allowed the hot rod style cars to be run w/ the street class cars. IMO, the rules should be redone to seperate the meth/wheelie bar drag cars from the gas/non wheelie bar street cars.

I would love to have a seperate class for these type cars, but having a seperate class for them would mean having another set of big payouts, which we can't afford. The payouts would have to be big because these cars are so expensive to run. Unless we can get more support from sponsors, the funds are just not there.

so basically if Kenny Tran comes out and runs he will be running against Allan S.

I ran at an IFO @ NPR back in 02 sometime.. The class was pretty small; Sonic Boom was running 10.6-10.8s, I was running 11.6-11.8s, there was a guy running mid 12's, then a few 13 or 14 second cars. I didn't mind coming in second to Sonic Boom, considering they were running a hot rod car and I was in my daily driver, but I can see why some of you might be concerned for this race. IMO, I have a hard time seeing more than 1 or 2 full blown race cars showing up though, considering this isn't a points or high payout race. Besides, I'm just thrilled there will be a race in Texas at all, regardless if I have to run against a hot rod car, regardless if I only get a few hundred bucks out of it, and hell, regardless if my car is even done by then to race, I'll still be out there.

With such a low payout, it's very unlikely Kenny or any other pro drag cars will compete. The payout is less than the amount of money it costs them to run their car.
Should we just place rules banning these type cars all together? I know most of the racers would like this, but the spectators wouldn't. And, the spectators are what support these type events. I think the best way to make with what we have is to stretch the $1200 payout to $800 first, $400 R/U. That way in case a pro car does show up, which I think is very unlikely, the R/U still has a decent payout. What do you all think?

i did mention to cliff that he may want to limit tire size to kinda weed out the "pro racer" in the main classes. in the past we have had import races and have had a few major cars come out and take the cash. it may turn out like that here, i think we need to help cliff in anyway we can to get a few companys to sponser a "pro" class to keep it a event that anyone can win and a event that alot of spectators will come to see the "pro" racers run...
i will do what i can here in san antonio and try to help cliff make this a hell of a year starter race....there may be alot of teams out there that may want to use this as a testing day for the 05 season....lets help and email those we know and make this a hell of a new year starter..

I'm sure we can get a little sponsor support for the race, but I highly doubt we can get enough to create a whole seperate pro class. The pro payout would have to be around $2000. Even then, very few pro cars would show up since this isn't a points race. I think the most realistic thing we can do is get enough sponsors to bump up the payouts for the one FWD Quick 8 class. Bump it up to where even if a pro car shows up, the R/U or even all qualifiers get a nice payout.
Bull, will probably just be 1st and 2nd, or 1st/2nd/and Qualifiers, no 2nd R/U.
