Carbon Fiber or Stock Hood?
I just bought a red 88 crx dx and have a cf hood on my hatch, so I took it off and put it on my crx. But Im not sure I like the way it looks! Its red with the cf hood and 2nd gen ls teg rims painted glossy black. I need to see mores crxs with that stock look to get ideas. Also I dont know wether I should paint my black moldings red with the car or just leave them black! What do you guys think?
CF Hood is like putting a big neon sign on your car blinking STEAL ME! STEAL ME!
As for the "look" I personally don't like the black cf hoods on anything other than black cars. But that's just IMO. They seem to be pretty popular, but then usually they're just there to go "Look at my carbon fiber hood! I must be FAST!" Like the equivalent of DOHC VTEC stickers on a stock civic dx. But once again... in my jaded opinion.

i have a CF hood only because my OEM hood was crunched in a parking lot at Wal Mart (damn Minivans). the CF hood was cheaper than buying a metal one + having it painted, so that is the route i took.

My $0.02 on this is to get the CF and paint the sides to match your car so it don't look so plain.
Look at my icon and to get an idea of it.
I would like a CF hood but it doesn't clear my wastegate so I am sticking to my F$#Ked up one till the day comes when it's absolute necessary.

i don't know if you're getting the cf hood for weight, but the stock hood only weighs 26lbs.
as far as theft, i guess that depends on where you live.
here, it's only if it's got 20's and a system, my crx looks like *** so i doubt it will ever get stolen (at least not here).
the only hood i would get is a carbon fiber zc hood to make the clearance for my engine (stock hood wore a spot in the valve cover) but then again... that's just me

I would like to get my hands on the VIS hood.
They have one with the SiR style hood but for USDM headlights.
That **** will be PIMP but I can't afford it.

SOOOOOO true. Alot of people just don't realize this. But paint costs alot of money. So much so that a carbon fiber hood is actually the more economical choice. In fact, the cost of a new OEM hood plus paint is going to come out to at least as much as a top-of-the-line CF hood like the Fiber Images hood.
Speaking of fiber images, I should also mention that if you have a B18C swap (or LS/VTEC or B20/VTEC swap), a carbon fiber hood like the Fiber Images JDM hood (which fits USDM cars) is the only way to go. With anything else (that fits a USDM car), you are stuck sutting out the underhood suppport. I don't know about you. But I would HATE to pay all that money for a new OEM hood and paint, only to have to cut away the support.

Spoken like a true New Yorker but I still like them
depending on the color and setup of the rest of the car.

true that. i was considering it for my civic, but i am doing other body work, and the whole car needs to be painted, so why not get a cheap hood for when i get the whole car painted, its a little easier that way though.

I'm at the same crossroads. I don't need a hood but a CF hood has crossed my mind. The stock hood is fine and isn't that heavy to begin with but a CF hood will be lighter which is a good thing. The CF hood doesn't need paint but may throw off the look of the car if you don't paint it and is expensive if you're getting a good one. I just don't know...i guess i'm waiting to find one cheap somewhere. =P Group buy anyone?
paint everything the color of the car, except the hood, a small amount of carbon fiber never hurt anyone, just dont go overboard with it, if you search for the thread-jdm front ef's only- in the app/cosmetc forum youll find archives of jdm fronted ef hondas with different varities of paint, on the mouldings or off the mouldings....and then you can go from there to see what you like
