Default benefit from taller slicks???

well, my setup is a lsvtec with about 190whp through 2 1/4 exhaust and about 132tq. I am currently running 20x8x13 slicks. Im manageing alot of 1.8-1.9 60fts and a few 1.7's. Now Im running a 92-93 gsr ys1 cable tranny with lsd. I am running around 13.1 at 90-100% humidity and 102-103 mph. heres one of my slips:

60ft......1.808
330......5.377
1/8......8.362
mph......82.23
1000.....10.954
1/4........13.156
mph......101.41

My car is a 89civic si with about 100lbs weight reduction. Could I hit 12's with a different size slicks. IM sure I coulda hit 12's with better weather and more seat time/practice but I just dont get that kind of oppertunities. Well, what size could you guys recommend and why???

thanks

Your times look good. The only tire size i would recommend would be 22-8-13. But it depends how high you rev this engine and what gear you are ending in the 1/4 mile. Keep up the good work!!

thanks for the good words.

I try not to rev over 86-8800 rpms to stay in my power band but I find my self bouncing limiter in 4th gear (9100) right around the 1/4mi mark.

Go with the 22x8-13. That should solve your problem ending the quarter mile in 4th at 9100rpms.

It helped when I went from 22x8-13" slick to a 24.5".

Good luck, good times!

My friends b20vtec only dynoed at 141 whp.. On a 4th gear pull ..which does make a difference.. 24.5 inch slicks with about 200lbs of weight reduction... went 12.9 at 103 mph at pomona,ca...1.7 60ft time

those are some good times for such little power and not really alot of weight reductions. You sure about that????? sigh, I can only think of 1 day when the humidity was around 35% but I couldnt get to the track cause of work. My goal was 12's this season and now there calling for snow tommorow.

The absolute biggest I would go would be 24.5" it would help with 60' and you would MPH better. However you will end up crossing the line around 7000K compared to your redline as it is now.

I would post the timeslips but I dont know how to post pics... but I would not lie!!! I said it was a 4th gear pull on the dyno.... 3rd gear dyno would probably render 15 more hp

I dont doubt the times. Very impressive. Soo far I have people telling me to run 22,23,24.5 biggest. Hmmmm, well I definately want to pick the best size slick for my set up. How much of a difference would these different sizes make from each other.

nice. But Im not sure I understand what shift rpm is? Thats obviously not what I shift at sooooo. Whats that stand for and how can I use this calculator to find out whats best for me? Obviously the more mph the better time but, I dont want to get the biggest slick and then overdo myself. And run worse times.

also according to the calculator I should be around 110 at 4gear redline wich isnt what Im at. Im around 105mph. hmmmm.

Actually when I use a 4.785 fd for my equation its pretty accurate, But I have a ys1 gsr tranny.

do these specs look accurate for my tranny?
92-93 usdm gsr ys1
1st 3.307
2nd 2.105
3rd 1.458
4th 1.107
5th .880
fd 4.40

if you bump your revlimiter that may be slowing you down some. but this usuly figures right on for us. those ratios are b16 cable or type r. except 5th

b16hydro ---------------- b-series cable
3.23 1st ----------------- 3.166 1st
2.105 2nd ---------------- 2.052 2nd
1.458 3rd ---------------- 1.416 3rd
1.107 4th ------------------ 1.103 4th
0.848 5th ---------------- 0.87 5th
4.4 fd ---------------- 4.26 fd- i think some may have 4.4 not sure on the cable stuff.

also try gearing so that you go through the traps at peak hp. shift rpm is what your rpm falls down to coming into a gear. try to keep this just ahead of peak tourqe.
