Yes he has an f22b2 non-vtec motor. An h22 dohc vtec head works as does the much more common f22b1 vtec head.

the easisest way to do it is a drirect head swap of the ex head.

Yes it can be done. He will need a f22b1/2(?) head.

Or

He can do this: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=776837

yes, you can swap a f22b1 sohc vtec head on an f22b1 sohcnon-vtec block. I did it on my 95lx. it is a very simple and straight forward swap. all the components are identical. the same headgasket is used (vtec, non-vtec same gasket) you can use the same exhaust manifold. you can also use the same distributer. be sure to use the vtec timing belt though. on that note though, the difference between an f22b2 and a f22b1(vtec) is only 15hp and 7ft lbs, which some of that difference can be attributed to an ex models better exhaust design.
or, as others are saying an h series vtec head, but as you can see is a little more labor intensive.
