Default 88 hf tranny accelaration sux

I have a d16z6 turbo crx without vtec connected running 5.5 psi with the stock 88 hf tranny, when I race other civics they keep with me easy 1st and most of second , I cant pull away until 5,000 rpm in second gear, is the acceslaration of the hf tansmission that bad?

105mph in 3rd gear at 4800rpm == HF tranny sucks..

A DX tranny would be an upgrade ..but a SI or ZC tranny would give u the best acceleration..

I don't sugar-coat things.

The HF trans is terrible. Longer gears always equate to slower acceleration, unless you are having traction problems or something. Even the Si tranny is relatively long, compared to the short gearing that the VTEC B-series engines have in their transmissions.

I've run the numbers...if you were to throw a VX tranny on a built D16Z6 and rev that thing to 8500 RPM in 5th gear...

You'd be going 251 mph on some 195/50/15's.
