Default Poor Man's Hondata I/M insulating gasket ?

Hey all, being ghetto cheap again... input welcome.

I was going over some stuff in my head and was thinking about insulation intake manifold gaskets. Hondata reports noticable gains from using them. They insulate the intake manifold from absorbing heat from the head, hence keeping intake temps down somewhat compared to stock

A Hondata gasket costs $60 or so... but I was wondering... doesn't standard plexiglass have good insulation and heat resistant properties ?

I don't know how much heat a 1/4 or 1/2" of plexi can take, but is it possible that we could route out a sheet of plexi to act as an insulation gasket for a fraction of the Hondata price ?

Lemme know what you all think...

You can get a cheaper insulating gasket from AN-R for half the price on the hondata.

The hondata gaskets are pretty pliable, more pliable than a plexiglass sheet. The problem I can think of with the plexiglass would be the possibility of the gasket breaking once the IM is torqued down, particularly around the bolt holes.

Hope this helps, but it is a good idea

plexiglas wont work. the gaskets that your talking about are phenolic.

exactly. their is cheaper "knock-off" gasket that claim to work. they dont, might as well use the stock paper gasket.
