hondata 3step settings.. help what do you yours set at??
i need to set my hondata s200b w/ 3step up for this coming weekend and need a little help setting it.. im not gonna be able to get to the track and do any real practice runs so i would like to get it setup good before hand if i could..
right now i have it setup as --
launch - ive been told to launch high w/ slicks so i was gonna set to about 8k
vtec - somewhere around 5k (set by shop on dyno)
redline - 8600 (via msd digital6, hondata redline 10k)
full throttle - is 6k a good enough rpm to set this to?? i dont want to go out on the highway and start flying so i can set this..
shift light - will be set to 8200 i think
here is a post with info on the car if it helps out in determining my settings..

im not going to mess w/ the msd 2step this season because i dont have time for it but im more than likely gonna use it next season forsure..
thanks

my 3-step:
launch: 7411 (I agree with the launch high method, then you work your way down, 7400 is the sweet spot, where i actually get traction in 1st versus bogging, versus spinning them completely.
vtec: 4750.....i need to get to dyno, it was the std asstest to try and smooth out the engagement.
WOT shift: 7500 i want to keep boost up
shift light: 7950 (allows me to shift before rev limit)
rev limit: 8200 via hondata
this is what works for my car. I've managed a best 60ft of 1.72 with this, 11.75 was my best run at 14psi on pump gas. b18c1 with 20 over, pistons/rods, stock head. t3/t4oe 60trim, stg 5 wheel.
The launch is the hard part, this past weekend, i tried to work on my launch more and wanted to launch higher to get more power down, try to get a 1.6x 60ft, but i was just spinning more, i never got better than 1.82 60ft.

i'm rollin a 5k vtec...7211 launch...9200 rev limit
thats on a 25x8.7 slick cutting about a 1.7 60ft
you cant just set these out of nowhere....u gotta dyno it to see where the vtec curve is the smoothest...launch rpm is gonna depend on what size slick/how much air is in them/ how much power your running/ suspension setup/ and rev limit is gonna be decided when your power falls off or even if your motor is built for it or not

already been on the dyno and have that all setup.. they did it when they burned the hondata chip.

im running Axis VPD 13" Drag wheels w/ 24.5x7 MT slicks, ive read that its good to start out at about 6-8 psi and once i do a burnout in the box they will heat up and by the end of the run there should be about 12psi in the tires.. im running @ 19psi making about 385hp/280tq to the wheels. and i have omni-power full coilovers, full-race traction bars and integra brakes all around
and rev limit is gonna be decided when your power falls off
rev limit it set to 8600rpms
hope that helps.. please let me know what you think i should atleast start off at.. i dont have time to get to the track and practice and i have a bet going i need to win. thanks
with everything you've stated, i would run about 8 lbs of air in the slicks and launch at about 7200 rpm. I've had good luck with that setup so far. Every car is gonna be different though...just watch how many times the tire is spinning off the line and drop the air pressure from there. good luck man.

no clue about whp, i figured 300+whp.
M&H 24.5x8.5x15 @ 10psi when hot, I check pressure immediately after the run to check pressure.

You said you have a Digital 6 right? If so, use that instead of the Hondata 3 step. The MSD cuts spark instead of fuel, is easy to adjust cause the ***** are right on the side of the box and sounds absolutelly badass compared to the Hondata. Not to mention building boost on the line.

315whp (on a MD dyno)
M&H 25x8.7x13
Full interior second gen weighing roughly 2650 with me in it. Ran a 12.007@114.80 and that was with only a 1.831 60ft. Best i've cut so far was a 1.77

I have the honda 3 step and it sounds just like a rev-limiter. I only build 3-4 lbs of boost on it (set 6k rpms). Is that the way it's supposed to sound?

it works the same way as a rev-limiter, as it cuts fuel. you could probably build a little more with a MSD setup to cut ignition, due to pooling fuel, but i now i still can blow off first iwth my slicks, so building more boost isn't what i want.

the guys that tuned my car said to use the digital 6 also but i paid for the 3step from hondata.. will the digital 6 also give the full throttle shift or any other features that honda does??? ive got the hondata all wired up and have an on/off switch so i can easily turn off the hondata and switch to the digital 6 setup.. would a momentary switch be fine for it? i think the best place would be the steering wheel but im using a stock wheel and have no place for it..
also what how should i set the retard on the msd box, i think they said to 9 on both dials and it would pull timing or something... give me some insight on this better setup..
and also, overall is the msd setup much better over the hondata without the full throttle shifts and 3step?? thanks bro

yes the hondata sounds like a rev-limit cause the hondata cuts fuel not spark..

If you wire it up to the clutch pedal the MSD will work as the Hondata does for the full throttle shift. You could always retain the Hondata full throttle shift and use the MSD 2 step. *shrug* There are several places it can be wired to, e-brake, steering wheel, pretty much anywhere easily accessable while in the burnout box. As far as the retard on the ignition goes I personally would leave the box zero'd out just to make sure that it doesn't mess with the tune. You would have to double check with your tuner to make sure though.
