Default Damn creaking noise right by Driver-side door pillar... anyone else?

Ok, with 9k miles, the driver-side pillar area right behind the head-rest is creaking like a **** now. I know that sound wasn't there until a few thousand miles ago. The only thing that I can think of is that the driveway to my house is a right-hand turn into an unhill section (that I go at an angle due to the front chin-spoiler)... which would put stress on the driver-side frame area... so, my question is:

1. does anyone have this problem?
2. are their any significant welds along the area that could've cracked due to rough road-surfaces?
3. will a roll-cage make it go away?

Any help would be appreciated.

-Sean

Not sure about your squeak, but i got one of those annoying squeaks on the passenger side...i cant tell if its the door or the dash or what. Im sure its just the plastic rubbing together somewhere.

Yeah mine squeaks and rattles. Just something you got to get used to. Its a Type R, not a Bimmer or a Benz. I noticed something else, all type R's that I have been in have a strange smell. But its the same smell in each Type R. Maybe its my upper lip.

no, but i have a clip in my pass. side door the rattles with the music...ive tried to isolate the piece to keep it from rattling, but it didnt work. I guess ill have to wrap it in tape or something.

Sean: just turn the radio up and get an exhaust...that will lessen the chance of you ever hearing squeaking noises

3. will a roll-cage make it go away?
lol. that's probably the strangest reason for a roll cage i've ever seen

i agree with TJ,
get an exhaust or run open header Black R style and you shouldn't hear it!

Of course that's not the only reason for going w/ a roll-cage, but it might speed things up.

Anyway, the problem is that I didn't have the noise until a month or so ago... I wonder if I did go over some speedbumps too fast to fatigue the shell, that's all.

YES! Recently my passenger side has started making an odd sound, usually when I accelerate hard... It makes me reach over and yank on the door to make sure it's closed, and it always is. Maybe I just need to adjust the door hinges or catch mechanisn?

does it creak all the time or only occasionally or only when turning, etc?

I've got the same problem in the drivers side a pillar between the door and the windshield!

It started at ~9k miles and I think it's because I parked funny at an angle on the hill in Willard's driveway... Damn I was gonna post up a thread like this too!

Anyone else? I figure maybe I can tighten up a bolt or something...?

The reason why I want to know is, 'cuz I don't want to fatigue my shell/frame. I mean, I've only autoX-ed in the R and it shouldn't be fatigued... unless my daily driving is giving the frame a hell!

Anyone (XR4racer) with gutted interior panels know if there's a weld/extra-stiffening-panel by the pillar around the driver-side door?

I have had this same problem for a while now. I thought I was the only one. It sounds kinda like the door panel and the back panel are rubbing together, right? It creaks when I first start to accelerate. It is coming from both sides now. I'm going to have the dealer look at it but apparently I need to drive the car and make the noise for them, they didn't hear it last time it was in for service. I'll try lubing the door latches and see if that kills it.

Tape up surfaces that might be sliding over each other with slick tape. Lube the door gaskets with pure silicone spray that has no petrolium distilates.

Yup, mine makes a creak, almost crack/snap, soound when I go over even the smallest bump. Acura tried to fix it. It was much better, for a short time. So I guess they were close to the problem. As an automotive audio engineer, every creak, squeak, or rattle drives me nuts!

I don't have any problems with sqeuaks or rattles but I have noticed a smell. I notice the smell more with the heat on. IT smells kind of like a mix of oil and burnt gun powder. I didn't like it at first but now I am used to it. It has had the smell since I bought it new. I thought that it might be some kind of new car scent.

What area in automotive audio market do you work in? I used to design audio amplifiers for that market. Now I mostly work on audio products for the multimedia and home theatre markets. Yes, I'm an electrical engineer.

Yeah, I've got this too... definitely sounds like plastic tho...

Also got this rattle that comes and goes... It puzzled me at first until I realized that it was the button on the handbrake that is rattling... It's not always there but when it is... it's impossible to stop. I mean, if I touch it, it stops rattling. But the second I let go... BAH! Anyone else got this noise? Both are mildly annoying but nothing to be worried about, right?

only rattle i had was from that little pocket on the door that you would use to pull the door shut. It has a screw at the bottom of it and it would back out.

Until i figured it out it drove me nuts cuz it sounded lik it was coming from where the door and rear panels meet. HTH
