If your looking for a school where you can learn to weld, custom paint, airbrush, fiberglass etc. You should look into Universal Technical Institute(Collision Repair and Refinish Technology)

Carolina Motorsports Tech Center... There are mainly abunch of NASCAR guys there, but I learned to weld and fab stuff. They also have metal shaping classes, for everyone who wants to build a better bike than Bolt on Chopper...errrrr OCC. They also offer suspension classes, plus you get a wicked deal on Matco tools.

Orange Coast Community College. They have the welding facility for pretty much every type of welding to learn. Their facility is I-CAR testing facility, also for other tests.

Another place would be is UTI.

Last place to learn....West Coast Choppers.

i just graduated from Wyotech not to long ago, and it was by far the best decision i ever made, i learn some much cool stuff, stuff that it would take a life time to learn anywhere else. If you take Street Rod / Custom Fab, and Chassis Fab / High Perf. Engines you will be a damn good welder by the time you are done.

If you are planning to go to OCC....look up for a professor named William Galvery. He is an excellent professor of welding. He has a beginning course of welding 100(3hrs) or welding 101(4hrs) at the same time. The class will base on Oxyfuel cutting and welding, ARC welder, plasma cutting, a little of MIG and TIG.

Then the next class up is I think is welding 211AB (MIG) and you could take a the I-CAR(International collision auto repair) test for a discount.

or

Welding ### something that is more related to TIG welding and more detailed in metalergy.

I think there are more local education centers around the LA area but I heard it's pretty costly. I think the closest certified welding facility around LA is Cal state LA (hoping that they still have it since the budget cuts).

Oh yeah, you live near Mt. Sac? I know a pretty close place for you then....Cal state Fullerton has a welding department, but they do not have a test center.

Wow, another h-t'er at Wyotech. I'm just finishing my first phase in automotive, but I'll be in Chassis Fab, High Performance Engines and Street Rod Fab soon enough.
