I have a 97 Accord EX V6 and I was originally able to get 23-25 miles per gallon out of it. Recently I started getting around 13 and with gas prices the way they are im wondering what might cause this. I already checked the air filter which is squeaky clean and Ill probably pull a couple spark plugs also. Is there anything else it could be?

 

o2 sensor is prolly your culprit.... check it out and see if its bad....ur not throwin any CELs are you?

 

yea mine to, like 13-14 mpg u think its the o2 sensor?

 

Yeah no engine lights at all which is why i didnt suspect the o2 sensor. Is it possible the ecu would not detect it even though it is faulty? Thanks for the info,

Seems like the O2 sensor is producing correct output. Anything else anyone can think of?

 

If you engine surges, it could be the MAP sensor. Sometimes the computer doesn't pick it up, it should. Far shot, but it may be a faulty computer.

 

Well this is interesting. The 13 to the gallon im getting happens only when driving around town. I took a trip last weekend and got 24 travelling almost exclusively by freeway. Even before, around town I would get around 19-20. I live in a small town and never drive more than a couple of miles. Anybody have any other suggestions?

had a frend who had the same problem...he changed his o2 sensor...but wasnt that...heard from a buddy to try reseting the ecu on is car...that worked....might want to try that....

 

ill try that. Whats the best way to fully reset the ecu?

 

Take battery off for 15 minutes or take off the negative terminal for 15 minutes. Will have to input radio code after you restart ECU.
