Default NASA at VIR -- registration is open!

Registration forms are now available for NASA-Virginia's Feb. 16-17 weekend at VIR. See http://www.nasaracing.net/feb16_02/index.shtml

The weekend will include a driving school, competition licensing school and Sunday enduro.

I see on the link "early bird packages" that, from the look of their price, include something more than just a single weekend's track time. I cannot find information on the site giving more details as to what they are. Is there a link to this information that I'm missing? Thanks!

EDIT: Nevermind, I found it by editing the URL to show me the home page of the site, then found the link to the details that weren't in the PDF.

You know, I'm really already regretting that I started this, but I think we'd better go ahead and get it over with.

No need regretting anything, like you said it was bound to be brought up sooner or later.

I will add, NASA puts on a great show. For those that have never experienced a NASA event, I highly recommend it. Speedtrial is an awesome group to run with as well. If money allows I highly recommend doing both, so you all can appreciate what both have to offer.

Well here it is straight from the horse's mouth. (I ran NASA east coast before Cobetto, now I run Speedtrial east coast - so I consider myself qualified to speak on the subject.)

NASA-VA does indeed put on an AWESOME show. Between the racing and the schools, the weekends are absolutely amazing for everyone involved. And, you could NOT ask for a better or more knowledgeable group of people than the current crop of NASA east coast officials. (Cobettos, Politis, Astons, etc.) They really are the best in the business - anywhere in the country - and I'd bet any amount of $$$ on that. You simply won't find a more intelligent or dedicated or hardworking group of people, no matter how hard you look. They put on the best show around , and they set the standard for every other group to hopefully measure up to. They also have all the momentum, because the NASA concept is the perfect ladder from schools to racing.

Having said that... Speedtrial runs a different show. Not better and hopefully not too much worse, just different. School-only. More seat time for less money. The same instructors and many of the same workers. But, no roadracing. And no inclusive ladder from driving schools to roadracing. So, just a lot of fun in your street/race car and nothing more, for the best dollar-per-minute-of-seat-time value around. That is an awesome thing in its own right, but it's also a particularly limiting characteristic in many ways. We try very hard to put on a program as fantastic as NASA's, but we have had our fair share of growing pains, and I'm the first one to admit that Speedtrial events are not as perfect. Again, that is a measure of difference and individual character, not competition between the two org's in any way.

This *IS NOT* going to turn into a NASA vs. Speedtrial discussion because as far as I am concerned, there simply is no comparison. The two are different, and equally enjoyable in their own ways. But they are not competing, because they have completely different goals and intents and approaches.

This unfortunate semi-conflicting schedule at VIR in February is forcing many people to make a choice. And I, for one, sincerely don't want that to happen... so much so that I will happily postpone the Speedtrial event if that's what it takes to keep good blood on both sides of the fence. So please form your opinions and make the decision that best suits your needs. Either way, you will have a great weekend at VIR, which is why we all do this. It doesn't really matter how you get there, or when you get there, or who you get there with... all that matters is that you do indeed GET THERE and GET FAST and HAVE FUN!!!

Sincerely,

Jon

I would not do it so much to keep "good blood" between both sides, as I would to allow most to make ** both** events to experience the differences that make each groups involved unique in their own way. With the events being back to back like this, it will make many choose between one or the other. That will be $525 in two weeks, not to mention the debt created by Christmas, and making sure we have brakes, tires, and lodging money to attend both events. I feel moving one or the other (since Jon so graciously added he didn't mind **Speedtrial**) to a later date, will be ** BEST** for the participants. This will allow them to recuperate from the expense, and enjoy what BOTH groups have to offer.

Im not trying to start a war, just throwing my 0.02 out there.

Bryan

I will check with VIR and see if we have any other options. But I sincerely fear that all other reasonable dates have been spoken for.

We already know we can't get a weekend during the regular season, so there might not be any other choices.

Keep in mind that Speedtrial reserved and publicized the Feb 23-24 event several months before NASA got the Feb 16-17 dates. So, this is going to require significant backtracking on our part. But if this is what it takes to make things best for everybody, so be it.

Mearly a suggestion:

Perhaps you could find someone with a later north course date that is willing to trade. I like the full course and all, but the north course kicks much ***.

Back-to-back weekends at the same track tapping the same student and instructor pool is going to be tight. Someone's gonna take a hit.

C-dawg here agrees with MaddMatt, though his personal benefit would actually be running ANYTHING at VIR during the summer when he is home since it seems nobody has summer dates there. Though looking at that tight spacing of the two events, that would be a lot of wear and tear on students, instructors, cars and wallets over a very short period of time.

yes....i wish for my sake that speedtrials was first only cause i want to be observed!! if i can get one or 2 maybe 3 events before being observed for provisional licencing then i feel i am and will be more prepared!! that is the only reason i would want speedtrials first....i will not go into debt for racing but i have been planning an saving now for 3 almost 4 months cause i knew that there were going to be back-to-back events at VIR FULL COURSE!! plus the thursday and friday before NASA event i'll be at carguys in charlott! talk about 4 days of hell on my car!!!
