New owner of 1991 CRX Si in need of HELP
I just purchased a 91 CRX Si 5spd with 135k without mechanical history. I need a complete exhaust, including the catalytic converter. What would be recommended? If I go with a Hi-Flow Cat, will I need an oxygen sensor? Also, the shifter feels extremely stiff when switching gears. What could be the problem? And, how can you tell if I need to change the timing belt? If the belt needs to be changed, should I also change the water pump?

welcome to Honda Tech man.
it is a good idea to change the timing belt and the water pump when you first get a Honda dude.
and as for the other stuff, if you click on the link that says "search" on the upper right hand side of your screen you will find PLENTY of useful info. try searching under "archived" material. sometimes you may have to re-word your search to get the desired result.
good luck.

If it's got 4 wheels and 2 doors, you can't go too wrong with that.
Yeah, it's pretty much recommended to change the timing belt any time you get a new car or motor, just so you know what you're working with in the future. And while you're in there, it's definitely wise to change the water pump, or you might be ripping back into it later.
Now, I don't know anything about emissions or high flow cats, but my 91 dx never had an O2 sensor on the cat before or after my LS swap... just the one on the exhaust manifold. I suppose it could be different with an Si, considering my lack of expertise.

Thanks for the info! I'm gonna end up taking the car to Midas for a free estimate, this way I can find out which parts I need to purchase on my own. I will also have to change the manual tranny fluid, due to hard shifting. This was suggested while searching the Archieves.
