mike from ips racing will be doing an intake test soon
all your questions should be answered

oh and word has it that the ingen makes a little, little more hp up top
but the aem has better protection against hydrolock with their bypass valve system

ice you are worried about hydrolocking get an icebox...they are safest for the most part...also most of the intakes give the same whp in the end...comptech is more in the midrange and aem and injen give most of their power up top

Never seen someone with an Injen but I'm happy with my AEM.

Injen has two different intakes, the race division which is 2 1/2" piping like the aem and they also have the regular 3" that has the extension that you can take on/off when it rains. Injen intakes are dyno proven to make more horsepower than aem. I prefer Injen

Ive seen real life numbers on the type R for the AEM. 7 whp works for me.

I like my AEM, I think a month or so ago there was dyno charts comparing Injen and AEM, try a search you may find it.

About the by-pass valve...weren't they re-called because they had some problems with them? I just got the one piece intake so I wouldn't have to worry about it.

yeah they recalled them. But they have a new version that fixes the problem. It happen to me so I have to send mine back now I can't say how much power I gained before I added the AEM CAI but my base run before tuning was 167whp. Besides that I love the sound it makes, especially in VTEC Even if it doesn't make more power than others I'd get it for just that reason.

Injen CAI is better, bends are alot smoother than the AEM

Acutally the Injen race division intakes are also 3" diameter. I love its sound and performance. My friend has an AEM in his Si along with DC headers and a GReddy exhaust, and when I hit VTEC I don't hear anything from his car. My intake drowns all his sound.

I like my AEM. I don't know of any one that has an injen. I think the problem that AEM was having on the bypass was the foam that they had put around it to act as a filter was getting sucked into the intake. I didn't put one on my CAI for that reason. I try not to drive when the roads are wet but sometimes I get caught. I just look out for deep puddles. I think that the AEM has a zircon coating in it that is supposed to help in swriling the air. I thought that it was metal shavings and they didn't clean it out good at the factory. I tried to get it out with a rag and didn't have no success so I called up the place I bought it from and they told me it was coated.

I'd seriously consider a Comptech Icebox over an AEM or Injen cold-air. I hate having to watch out for puddles.

But if you must, get the Injen street setup. That way, you can switch to cold-air or hot-air to your liking.

I looked at the Injen intakes for the Celica, and was never impressed with the build quality. I had an AEM on my R and loved it. I swiched to the Icebox since I wouldn't have to worry about hydrolock. I've yet to take the Icebox off since I much prefer it to the AEM. Much better down low performance with the same up top kick. The car also sounds more stock now.
