Default Test pipe on a stock exhaust?

Since I just went back to my stock exhaust, I was thinking of just doing the resonator removal and purchasing a T1R testpipe or having a muffler shop weld me one.

Now, I have read a few threads on S2ki about testpipes, and seen some dyno plots showing relatively okay gains. What do you guys think about this?

I have also purchased a VAFC as well, so I would get it all tuned for "maximum" performance. Let me know your opinions!

not really worth the trouble if you have strict emissions laws where you are if they do visual tests or if a stinky car bothers you. Otherwise, expect a louder/raspy exhaust note and a check engine light. The VAFC wont be the best tuning device and I wouldn't expect notable gains.

Well, I'm in Florida, so there is no emissions testing

Basically, I want the "gains" of an exhaust without the headache causing sound; since I don't have the money for a Comptech or Mugen.

Vapor, I know the VAFC is no where near the strength of an AEM EMS, however, I don't have around $1,200 for the EMS and my car is still basically stock.

hey man Im in Jacksonville FL

I got pulled over for my exhaust. While talking to the Sargent, I told him I had a Greddy Exhaust and it was 95db compliant. (I also had a straightpipe and exhaust dumpoff that i didnt mention, but he obviously heard how loud it was) Anyway, he said in florida if you modify your exhaust in anyway that it increases the noise level .. you can be issued a citation. Here is the important part, He said if you run a Straight pipe or no exhaust piping all together, that it is against Federal Law and they have the right to Seize your vehicle if they chose to do so.

Im guessing this was an cocksucking FHP. I haven't been pulled over yet for the one on my S but i did get pulled over about 4 years ago in my 00 Civic SI. I had a greddy EVO when it came out, it was under the decibel level but i was hauling *** in VTEC. He said the same bullshit and gave me a citation. I tried going to court for it because that is pure bull since you can buy a SI from Braman Honda with an exhaust upgrade. Still haven't gone to court for some reason, no suspension of DL, no nothing im guessing it was throw out because they cant prove ****.

Test pipe sounds ok, it just makes a throatier sound.

Greddy tests sound decibels on a bone stock car with just their exhaust, no test pipes. so you get 95 db.
if you have an intake with straight pipe you will go over the 100 db mark.
the catalytic itself muffles the sound. the intake creates more airflow thus more exhaust= more sound.

i was pulled over by the Fremont California police b4, his name is Officer Rosetti he has a decibel meter with him all the time...

I wasn't pulled over for my Spugen single, Invidia dual, or when I ran directly off the cat (before I put my stock exhaust back on, ran off the cat for about a day).

When I was dumping off the cat, I actually drove directly next to a Gainesville cop and he didn't say a damn thing to me.

Plus, I highly doubt that a cop will bring my car to a shop to have them lift it up to see what the deal is with my "cat."

Anyway, thanks for the heads up though. I know FHP can be ****** for sure.
