This happened back in March. Thought I'd post about for any poor bastard going through the same thing. My transmission had to be removed, split apart, install some new bearings, and reinstalled.

I noticed some tranny fluid on the garage floor. Took the car to a shop. Guy says the driver side axle shaft has a quarter inch of play. The shaft moving around cause the seal to leak fluid. The bearing inside the trans that the axle rides in was trashed. The race was actually broken. Not sure how this could have happened. Cost me $1180 to have it fixed. Probably just should have paid an extra $1000 to have it converted to 5 speed.
