1986 Accord LX - Swap transmission? Opinions - insights.
I have a 1986 Accord LX, just picked up for cheap. 152,000 miles, OK shape.
The transmission has issues. Bad shudder when shifting from 1st to 2nd.
I've priced transmissions as follows:
- Asap Motors in Houston - Used $550 + $119 shipping. Warranty is 90 days and must be returned first.
- Phoenix Hard Parts - F4 reman transmission is $750 + shipping $260.
- Local Junkyard - F4 $350, warranty, replacement one.
How hard is it to pull the old one and reinstall a replacement? I plan on getting a shop manual but would like to get an estimate from someone who's done it.
Also, do you think it's even worth it? The car runs OK. It won't kick down to slow idle by itself in the morning. I have to run out and tap on the gas. Gets great gas mileage around town.
It's the first Accord I've owned and really like the feel of the car. Should I mess with the transmission swap or just get rid of the car?
Any other places anyone could recommend for a rebuilt or good used one?
Thanks
