Default some dumb questions

hey guys, i was just wondering how much owuld it cost to convert my auto into a stick, and would the conversion cause any safety, or performance concerns? oh yeah this for my future 96 accord, whcich will hopefully get a h23 transplant.
and the other question is insurance. im gonna b covered under allstate, and i was wondering will they drop me if i carry out the engine swap. and if they don't, do you guys have any estimates on how high my rates are goning to jump? and lastly, do you guys think that its worth putting on this money into the accord or should i save up and get something else. my mom is driving the accord at thism moment, and it was bought in late 95, its the 96 version, and it has about 58k miles on it. it was rear ended about three months ago, and the sorry mechanics who fixed did a nasty job. thanks for your help

best way to avoid any insurance questions is to not mention the swap at all. As far as the conversion goes I think it is a consensus among us that it is not worth the exspense.

I probably wouldn't take urban's advice about not mentioning it to your insurance company because if you are in an accident and you had just paid $3-4k on an engine swap and they total your car, you're going to be very upset when they don't cover it. I know they must have some sort of special rate for modified cars, I would just ask your agent to make sure if you do a swap what will change. You will have to pay a higher rate I'm almost certain, but I would definitely mention it to them b/c you want to be covered.

And as far as the tranny swap goes, what's wrong w/ the automatic? You can build the tranny and you can run more consistent that a manual. We don't have to worry about missing gears or anything like that! I do agree w/ Urban in that the cost in the end will really not pay off.

Goodluck, happy holidays.

A good point but statistically he would be paying for it. You have to figure on two things.
1) i would say 75% of accidents are caused from behind. If the engine is damged then it would probably be his fault and not covered by his insurance. Other accidents where the front end is damaged to that point are usually due to aggressive or wreckless driving, once again not covered by insurance.
2) Insurance companys base their rates on what the value of the car stock. The inclusion of the engine, considered an aftermarket part, performance upgrade will boost rates.

Hey no problem man, it's basically what I would do if I were in your situation.

Yes I'm a fellow automatic driver, how exciting! About a year and half back I had a turbo setup on my car, really was uneducated enough to keep it up and be responsible with it, not only knowledge wise, but speeding ticket wise as well. I had the setup removed, went back to pretty much stock w/ the exception of the intake that I have right now. I had planned to do another turbo setup since my knowledge has greatly increased(reading books, TONS of help from people on message forums).

Unfortunately I got into speeding ticket trouble again so I'm in really no position to support another turbo funding. I just quit my job, I have school next fall so I might just save the money I get and use it for a rainy day.

Anyways that's just where I'm at now, glad to see that you're going to do the right thing w/ the insurance company, I hope everything turns out well.

Happy Holidays, and the best of luck in the new year!
