Default before i decide on a b16 swap...

ok, im looking at spending around 2600 for a b16 from hmotors, and a few bolt ons....

i.e.

2600 b16
150 shift linkage (going into a sol)
200 chipped ecu
300 replace clutch
250 itr 4-1 header

thats 3600 to have it in and running... minimum. i realize some prices are higher, but i'll wind up spending the difference on misc doo-dads.

now, before i dump this money.. is there any setup that will be just as relialbe, and give me more power for the money?
such as:
a mini-me.
a semi-built b20 (although it may be expensive because i need to pay for the seperate trans)
a semi-built ls
etc.

i tried a search, but its difficult to find a setup with a similar budget... and hard to figure power when you start subtracting mods from a dyno sheet someone posted.

oh, and i'd like to avoid the whole d-series turbo thing.

thanks to anyone who can provide some ideas and insight.

the chipped ECU isn't necessary to get it running, the swap should come with an ECU, I recommend something other than a chipped set-up, like Greddy e-Manage or Hondata

Since you asked about the mini me and cost...

D16z6 block -100 bucks
d16a1 either 86-87(if the p29 are too crazy for you) or 88-89(p29) pistons -150 bucks
bore and rehone and hot tanked- I dont knwo how much that will cost you, i get it done for 20 bucks a cylinder. so lets say 200 at most. 200

d16z6 head: 150
Headset: 150
valve job, change valve seals and such: 100
milled/resurace: 100
Ti-retainers: 135
Zex stage 2 cam or crower stage 3 cam- 300 bucks: 350
I/H/E: 500
ACL bearing Set: 105
New oil, oil filter, timing belt, water pump: 125
socket p28:200
good tune:200
d16z6 tranny: 150
clutch: 105 (clutchcityonline)

Pros:
a little under 2750 dollars.
Kill stock b16 swapped civic all day along.
New almost everything: 0 mile block

Cons:
People bitching about spending that much money or work on a single cam.

Go much faster if you decide to boost instead, for the same amount of money or even much less depending on price for parts.

i like that idea. i think if its really as quick as you say, i'd do that... put it in my sol, and use it as my daily

if/when i start to get bored, i'll piece together a turbo kit and block with rods/pistons on the side.

A local shop put out 180whp 130tor (not exact numbers, ir was 18X, and 13X) with a sohc without forge internals. It had the p29 pistons, shootpeened rods, an-r header, custom gude cam, and basic in and outs, and just massive tuning.

D or B = No torque until you gonna boost

So i recomend H22 Kinda expensive and lots of hidden costs but it will be worth it.........

Think about it

oh and almost forgot check out my avatar of what i think about the D series
