I was thinking of just replacing the midpipe because the can seems fine with a little polishing.

To late.

You can use a metal polish to minimize it, but the only way to fix that is to have it replated. The problem is, it's chrome.

I have the same thing on my bike, and have contemplated just painting the whole exhaust flat black.
