Car seems to turn over, but removed dist. cap and rotor won't turn while engine is cranking ?
about 4 days I ago I leave a clinic, start my car it turns on and dies, then I try to turn it on and it just turns over.
I hit the gas and it tried to start it again, it started for a second and then died again.
Now it just turns over, I took the dist. cap off and when the car is cranking the rotor turns maybe half an inch and falls back to the same position and it keeps doing this while cranking.
I thought it was my timing belt but I took off the valve cover and it seems to be intact.
I won't get to work on it untill maybe sunday so I'm just wondering what could be wrong
I hope it's the starter maybe ? or the dist. ?

Take out the sparkplugs so it's easier to turn. Take off the valve cover. Turn the crankshaft pulley counterclockwise & watch the camshafts & distributor. You'll have to look for what's broken. Maybe the drive lug where the distributor shaft engages the end of the camshaft?
check bearing between distriduter and cams may be stuck. might need to replace

Check for bent valves.
