Difference between D16Z6 and Y8.
Thats what I thought. Thanks alot. I was wondering if the comp was different or there was a difference in the head or something.
Heads are different, pistons are different, cams are different, distributors are different, oil pans are different...they don't share any parts except for the T-belt and block

Okay, here's what I know.
Blocks are the same, same bore/stroke/rods
Oil pans are different
Both trannies have the same gear ratios, but the Y8 has stronger shift forks
Z6 redlines at 7200, Y8 at 7000
Z6 has 125 hp, Y8 has 127 hp
Y8 head has a smaller, square combustion chamber
Z6 head has a larger, round combustion chamber
Z6 head flows better
Y8 IM flows better
Z6 has larger dished pistons (i'm pretty sure)
Y8 is 9.6:1, Z6 is 9.2:1
Y8 is obd2, Z6 is obd1
Distributor bolt patterns are different
Y8 has a knock sensor
Y8 has a slightly more aggressive cam
Y8 cam gear is about 5 degrees off from the Z6 gear (which is straight up)
Thats all I can think of for now

the y8 has a square combustion chamber as opposed to the z6 circle chamber....try fitting a circle inside a square, don't you have a little extra room left.

The squared-off sides of the Y8 makes the combustion chamber smaller, therefore increasing the compression...it is essentially the same thing as having a welded circular chamber.

actually, the z6 and y8 head gasket has the same part number, and they are all MLS.

block is different too, y8 has the dipstick in the oil pump and z6 has it in the front of the block. i think they only share the water pump, t-belt, cranks, and valves/springs/retainers. they're pretty similar over all
from my knowledge,
the gearing in the transmissions are the same,
only diff is the y8 has some steel part that the z7 has in aluminum... ppl like that for durability or somethin.. forget what part though.
oh and the folk over at dseries.org prefer the z6 intake mani and have found it to flow better on the top end.
even though the general masses think the y8 is better cuz it LOOKS like it should be
