Default questions about filters?

well today, i was pretty bored and decided to check the throttle body for dirt etc. and im using a mugen intake which has been on for about 7 months now...throttle body was clean, but where the rubber connect's there was a few specs of dirt..

basically what i wanna know is, how harmful could dirt be to our engines in the longrun?

and does anyone know just how good the filter works?

ive taken out the filter before and it seems like it works pretty good...
im pretty sure it's a k/n filter.....also car has about 7k....tia

It's the exact same filter as the S2000 uses - should be fine.
