Default questions for those that drive jdm itr trannys or b16 trannys with 4.785 final drive

hey guys, i'm doing some tranny research and i was wondering if there's anyone out there that has a JDM ITR swap OR, GSR block with jdm itr tranny, or LS block with jdm itr trannys. Or GSR/LS block with b16 transmissions with 4.785 final drives

With any of these combinations, does it end up leaving first gear too short for everday usage? And since the higher final drive makes 2nd gear shorter, does it make it short enough to where you can easily start off in 2nd gear?

thanks

i'm not asking if it makes the car faster, i'm wondering what it's like to start off in 2nd gear.

check this out:
Designed for the Civic DOHC VTEC (B16-160bhp) type P20 gearboxes, this 5 speed racing and high performance gearkit has ultra-close ratios to keep the engine revs up and in the power band. The taller first gear is more useable for high-powered cars and allows you to carry more speed. The remaining four gears are spaced tightly to take advantage of a VTEC's high rpm power.

that was taken from the quaife site, and they have four different final drive options, one of the options is a 4.154. with that final drive, their first gear ends at 55 mph. according to my calculations, the jdm itr's 2nd gear ends at 56 mph. both of those calcuations are at 8200 rpms

now you'll understand why i'm asking

when i was drag racing with my b20baaaahtec
i tried starting in both 1st and 2nd....

only thing that changed was my 60 foottimes....

trap speed and et were the same...that was with a b16 tranny with 4.785<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by egcoupe &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">

you are right.....i can't drive....going from 18th to 5th in less than a 1/4 mile....
cool tires own you....you need heat in the rears.....and they didn't get hot enough in the warm up lap....did you see that i saved a 4 wager?? second spin i decided not to save it cause those that were on that part of the track would most likely be rookies and would not know what to do if i came shooting back on track....

yes that did go through my head and why i did NOT save the second spin....i also knew at that point that there was no catching the front guys so decided to penalize myself for being stUpid

why in the **** would you want to start off in 2nd for?? So you can save time in between shifting from first to second, cause the short shifter isnt donig its job?

have you not read what i've said? I was thinking about how the first gear on the quaife gears ended at 55mph with the 4.154 final drive. After doing calculations i've noticed that the JDM ITRs second gear ends at 56mph which makes the gearing of the JDM ITR's 2nd gear virtually the same as 1st gear on the quaife gears with the 4.154 final drive. Since i doubt anyone on here has the quaife gears with that particular final drive, i'm asking what it's like to start off in the JDM ITR 2nd gear with a motor with 87.20 or 89 mm stroke (gsr/ls).
