Default RSX Type S vs. Dodge SRT-4 | I dont know which one to get. Well i do and dont.

First off please no flaming. I currently own a civic and i am looking into a new car.

Ok few things:

1. I know the SRT has more power; more torque.
2. there around the same price.

Anyone know someone who has had an SRT 4 for alittle while? I have friends that do and they love them.

But for myself i dont care what anyone says the RSX-S will outlast any SRT-4 in quality and better resale.

where i am tossed up is that i know the SRT-4 is fast i test drove in one and liked it but i am thinking i will kick myself in the *** with it soon as i drive off the lot 5G's drops of the worth...maybe alittle sarcastic here but you get the point.

Now i know the RSX-S is quick but it is slower, alot less torque but the style is better and Honda and Acura are strong engines.

I have pretty much answered my own question i know but someone please give there opinion and not an opinion case you get high off VTEC. (thats a joke please dont take offense.)

How is the SRT-4 not practical? It has MORE room than the RSX, LOWER price, MUCH MUCH more power/tq/potential plus LSD. The RSX is just like the 2dr Integra: useless back seat (I've owned two myself).

The only thing the RSX has is looks and Honda reliability.

It's up to you. Honestly, I'd get a WRX or EVO (used if need be) over any fwd car, but that's just me.

That's happen with any new car. If you don't want to lose a grip, then buy used. I got my WRX new in '01 and now regret not waiting a yr and let some other sucker take the initial hit.

The SRT-4 is a great car, and I think lots of people will be interested to see how they hold up in the long run. A couple things...

If I'm not mistaken, a stock RSX-S handles better than the SRT, but I could be wrong on that.

The SRT has more ultimate mod potential, being a turbo car with good aftermarket support. Again, I could be wrong on that, but at least Dodge's Turbo Toys bits seem to yield a lot of power and some cool features.

For me, personally, I didn't even consider the SRT. I knew it was faster, but for my lifestyle, my car has to be lots of things, not just fast, and reliability and just an overall *quality* feel is something the RSX is great for. And for an NA car, it's quick and there's plenty of mods available.

If I had 20k to drop on one of the two with the intention of modding them for speed I'd get the SRT4.

If I had 20k to drop on one of the two with the intention of daily driving it and never, ever racing it I'd get the RSX-S.

If you're not planning on racing it i'd go with the RSX just out of quality. It's a nice car, and it's got enough get up and go to have fun with. But if you have even the slightest urge for speed, the best bang for the buck would be the SRT it's just a better platform to start with.

It's funny how people can't admit that a "Neon" can actually be a good car...even better than a Honda...God forbid.

RSX has looks and reliability over the SRT-4, that's about it. SRT-4 on the other hand has better power numbers, almost the same handling, still looks ok and is cheaper than the RSX.

So you can see why all the Honda guys are panicking trying to think up something bad about the SRT-4.

"Oh hey guys...let's point out the fact that it's a Neon. That should even out the playing field...Heheheh"

BTW, this is coming from an Acura tech with 3 Honda's to his name right now.

*Here we go again, we just got over a big argument about this subject*

04' SRT 4 (LSD) according to car and driver, ran a 13.9

not bad for 20k

it sounds to be that you're looking for something fast. I'd say go with the SRT4, but it's not really that practical to drive always. Long trips, I would say gas mileage would be sacrificed a bit.

You're in the DC5/EP3 Forum asking if you should buy one. The answers you get should be predictable.

The SRT4 is a hell of a lot of car for the money...it just depends on whether it's the kind of performance you want in the package you want. All that power does go into a Quaife Torsen differential, which is something Honda/Acura hasn't done since the DC2 ITR (hasn't done as stock equipment, anyway).

On the other hand, I don't see any SRT4 at driving schools and track days. I still see a hell of a lot of DC2 ITR and the BMW Mini S, but no SRT4.

That doesn't answer the question about what the car's good for, but it does make one wonder.

if you're into drag racing, srt4 can't be beat for the price.

but you have to realize then that you're getting a turbo engine on a neon shell. which is ok for some people. you'll get power windows up front and manual window rollers in the rear. sucks for your passengers. but hey, at least they have a door of their own.

i hate the srt4 exhaust gobble sound. it's nothing compared to mustang straightpipe or camaro straightpipe.

but hey, i have a rsx. so i'm biased. take my opinion with yer saltshaker in hand

well after reading what you said (krystar) i think your leaning towards the rsx type s, which I would be as well.

Also I feel like your asking this question to other members here not just about whats better but what has more pimp value (haha) obviously if you really like a car then you should deciede, not let others to deciede whats better. but since your asking you want to see what gets more votes.

here is mine.
if you want to attract 14-17 yr old girls get the dodge neon with the turbo
18-24 yr old young women then rsx
hahaha.

The SRT is a cool car, no doubt about it. I think there's a stigma to the word "Neon" but if dodge keeps making "neon's" as cool as the SRT, before long the word won't sound much worse than "civic" in terms of potential.

Personally, I'm glad I went with the RSX. But I'd definitely gone with the SRT before I'd stooped to the level of VW...

i like the rsx interior better plus the S has awesome gas mileage but still enough power to put you in the seat....the sound system isnt the loudest, but the standard bose system is tight especially the in dash 6 disk changer (didnt even know this till like 3 days after i bought it lol)....fvck the back seat, i dont hav kids n e way

ive got a couple friends with the srt 4 as well its a nice car but i hate that rear spoiler and it looks like dodge put a tacky body kit on it and the rear sits hella higher than the front.........

i dont know how the two compare to eachother but in my opinion the rsx is my choice..........

Does the SRT-4 have a 6th gear?

You could just about say do you wanna go fast or slow?
Who cares about a 6th gear if the car can't take advantage of it.....RSXs are great cars, look good, drive good, but stock for stock an 04 SRT will beat down a stock RSX on a road race, drag race, you name it. Just depends on what you want.
I agree w/ you about the wing though...

Stock for stock, the SRT is damn fast. I think every thread has mentioned that. But you gotta really think about your driving, and what you spend most of your time doing in a car. For most people, racing (and I use that term loosely) is only a small part of that. And there's always something faster.

Get the honda! Nobody has mentioned the fact that you'll be paying out the wazoo on insurance money. Keep that in mind, you might want to check your insurance company. They might not even insure you on a Turbo car! Get your rsx and turbo it. Or, better yet, get an EG and turbo it with a k20a!
