Default shifting gears

ok when I push my 93 si hard and shift from 2nd to 3rd it slightly grinds sometimes. it doesnt do this in any other gear except 3rd. also when casually shifting, 3rd gear seams harder than normal to shift into. anyone know what the problem is?

cheaper to just get a new trans than take it to a shop they will charge you a lot. D series stuff its hella cheap.

In a sense it would be cheaper to get a new tranny. If you count yourself the handy man, then buy some synchros and do it yourself. Just hold no illusions of it being an easy job. Most importantly, DO NOT keep driving it hard in that gear or do absolutely nothing to fix it unless your transmission is masochistic and you enjoy destroying a gear box.

I guarantee its you synchro. Honda trannys are pretty tough but that the weak point. I mean anything shifting hard at 8000 is gonna be taxing. Youre looking at around 250 just to crack the case and find out. Then if its only one synchro maybe about 110 - 150 for that and labor for install. But while youre in there you better just replace them all and have a brand new tranny pretty much. That will cost about 400. so around 750 - 800 minimum for total labor. Or you could spend a few hundre more and get a clean new one for about 1100. You might get a lucky deal if you look hard enough. But STOP MASHING IT!!! youre gonna kill it fast.

I had a bud that had his 3rd go out. I remember driving it. 1st, 2nd, then 4th Had to skip 3rd gear all the time. Just get a new tranny and save some time.

i'm 99% sure it's a synchro, same thing happens in my civic. until i get money for a tranny, i go from 2nd to third slowly, letting revs drop, or i double clutch it. you get used to it, i can't drive another manual car w/o double clutching tho

Haha.. on my brother's old integra ( 92 GS ) with the stock ls tranny, 3rd gear went out. You could feel it slowly deteriorate through time, and he just ended up buying a newer used b16 tranny and threw it in there. Unless you are some type of tranny guru, and can rebuild a tranny, just find a clean used one with no grinds or anything.

honestly, look how you shift into third. Second and third are the most abused gears.

you dont see anyone slamming it into fifth.

What muscles do you use to put it in third gear? think about it.
