Default CAI: is it worth it in the long run?

I am thinking about getting a cold air intake for my EK9. Is it worth it in the end? Will it make me fail emission testing? If it won't, is there a specific brand I should consider? And is a bypass valve worth getting also??? I'm new to this and your input would be greatly appreciated!!

I don't believe it will make you fail emission testing, but it works best when it is used in conjuction with an header/exhaust also. Several people on here will probably swear by AEM, Iceman, Injen, and others will argue that a generic is just as good. Do some searching around on here and you will find a plethera of topics about CAI's as well as bypass valves.

Good luck.

3" Mandrel-bent pipe.
Mate to stock airbox.
Drop-In K&N Filter.
Remove Resonator.

This is worth it. $300 CAI is not.

i'd say it's worth it, specially if u get a used one. they run around 75 clams, don't pay more than 100. and i'd invest in the bypass filter if the car is a daily driver in chicago or anywhere that gets serious rain.

Cold air intakes are fine.

If my wife and I can drive our cars for 4 years with cold air intakes with no problems, then you guys should be able to also.

it does make my car feel more responsive, but i wouldn't spend 100~250 on some AEM intake.

jsut pick up a generic one on ebay.

and get a bypass valve.

like the guys said earlier, if you plan on turbocharging your engine down the line, it is a wasted investment to buy a cold air intake. but if you are just going for the little mild N/A thing, i guess that it would work ok; just do a little researching on how the different intake tubes did on dynos and stuff.

AEM V2, ill let u know its the best iev ever experienced
the whole thing w/ how it spins the air for better induction is great..
think of a river flowing at a constant speed, then it narrows...what happens? it speeds up rapidly, same with the large pipe into small pipe concept. Also, any other intake will be useless cuz it only improves hp in the low rpm, the V2 increases it in all rpm's including where u need it most in the highs.. do some research on it, ull be surprised

Comptech/mugen style is the best way to go.

Word to that If you are worried about hydrolocking, comptech/mugen is the one to get. Ive heard AEM had a recall on bypass valves failing and flying into the throttle body
