Default How much important is a small tire in the rear @ DRAG racing?

When I mount very small tires in the rear (about 165 or so) on a 15 inch rim and have a high pressure in the tire, how much can I improve the ¼ mile time instead of having a 225 tire on the rear even in 15"?

In front I would have a slick on a 15inch rim.

I'd imagine the benefits are only reduced weight and rolling resistance/drag and are pretty insignificant (unless you go from a real big, heavy wheel/tire to a real small lightweight setup). I figure the pros do that 'cause they're trying to sqeeze out every last hundredth/thousandth of a second.

So you think I can safe money on buying a cheap rim with a cheap *** rubber and should drive on the track with my stock 15inch rims where an Auto X tire is mounted or with my street rims (Volk TE 37 in 16inch)

Yeah save your money. Just raise the rear tire pressure to the max rating on the tire, say 45psi or so and make sure you have zero toe in your alignement. You may pick-up .5-1mph in your trap speed but that's about all.

Since tire is in a light load condition, you can go higher on the psi. I run 55-60 psi in mine, 155/80/13's on my Civic HB. It is worth a consistant .3 tenths in the quarter mile. It does make burnout a little harder. Once the slicks grip they will DRAG the rear tires through the water box.

I didn't get to 13.5@100 mph with just a SOHC 1.6L on juice with only HP. You have to use all the "free" tricks also.
