Default HELP: MY VTEC IS BOGGING

current set up is in a 91 civic hatch...d16z6 motor, ob0-obd1 jumper harness, p28 ecu.....92-95 si distributor......im not sure about the injectors...and im running a resistor box and a 4 wire o2 sensor....

problem is wen the vtec engages it pulls fine unless im at WOT (wide open throtlle) or even somtimes wen i hold a gear about halfway to wot it will start to spudder....usually starts to bog/sputter anywhere between 6000-7000 rpms....ocassionally at 5500 rpms...any body know what this could be? i know it could be alot of things but just seeing if anybody could help me out or if anybody has had a similar problem? im thinking it has something to do with fuel or ignition cuz my timing is fine...any info is greatly appreciated....THANKS...

is there anyway for me to tell if they are obd0 or obd1? i know the clips are the obd0 ones....the dirty clear looking tan color...but dont the obd0 and obd1 injectors have the same clips just diffrent colors....and with the resistor box do i just unplug it or do i have to reconnect wires? thanks in advance....

nope the obd-0 injector clips would only fit obd1 if it was modified.. meaning that you got obd-0 injectors...

to answer your bogging problem... i think you vtec crossover is not set right.. where do you have it set?

have you done a basic tune-up.

plugs/wires/cap/rotor/fuel filter/air filter??

even if it doesnt FIX the problem couldnt hurt.

I would atleast check the plug gap.. set it to oem specs for a 92-95 ex

yeah i checked my cap, rotor, wires, spark plug gap the day after is started bogging....spark plugs are about a month old....stock gap setting for my motor is .044....they were preset correctly....cap looks good, rotor looks good, wires are also about a month old...

uh and as for the vtec crossover....how do you set that? im running a stock p28 ecu....so shouldnt the computer be controling the vtec crossover?

THANKS GUYS FOR ALL THE INFO! KEEP IT COMING....

could the injectors also be a reason why it is bogging? they are obd0 injectors....i think they are from a 88 integra....could i be running way too rich...it smells like im running super rich....

I gather no codes / cel???

That would probably rule out a vtec crossover wiring prob ... it would throw a code.

Sounds like you have complete obd0 - obd1 switch excpet for the injectors and injector wires??? Maybe the OBD1 ECU (P28) sets fuel ratio differently than an OBD0?

On my swapped I switched over complete to OBD1 ...

Check your oil? Might be oil pressure or sumat.. Not too sure, tho'. Know fuckall 'bout cars, tbh. But somethin' 'bout VTEC ain't too happy wifout good oil 'n pressure. Guy from local Honda Club had trouble wif his VTEC not kickin' in at all, seem to recall the prob' was concernin' the oil somehow.

yea the ecu should set it since its a p28... but if you really wanted to control it get a vtec controller... fields would be the cheapest one...

the injectors should do just fine.. the only other way to find out if you are running lean or rich is get that a/f gauge

not even, those gauges are crap.. u need wideband to PROPERLY and ACCURATELY check..

i'd check your map sensor and/or vac lines.

Apparently somethin' you're not able to comprehend..

Car.. With VTEC.. Needs decent oil.. follow me? shitty oil/oil pressure makes VTEC go urgh-argh.. But as mentioned (ie. don't take me ******' seriously), I'm not sure.

Please don't ever post again.. Your e-slang is not 'l33t' in any way. Yes, oil pressure is very critical when it comes to VTEC engagement but it would not cause sputtering. Do you have an AFPR? Get ahold of one, find out your PSI at idle vs WOT. Is your fuel pump primering w/o problems? It sounds like you might have fuel pressure problems if it only bogs/sputters at WOT. No vacuum leaks on your IM? - Darrell

I don't really see where I was trying to be l33t or whatever the hell it is you fancy pickin' on. I was throwin' out somethin', tryin' to help the bloke. I stated twice I know jack-all and it was a shot from the hip. If you can't take that, tough luck, not everyone spends their life with a monkeywrench up their ****, champ.
If someone asked me for directions, and I didn't have a clue, I'd still try to help out 'cause "oh noes, I r teh l33t helpful cocklobster. Evilness abound, mateys!"
Have a nice day, Darrell.

clean the screen on the vtec solenoid. Clean injectors are you running a stock p28 or a chipped one...hopefully a stock one.
How is your fuel pump?

okay just eliminated the cap and rotor, plugs and wires... changed all that today....still fuken bogging....just realized that its not the vtec thats causing it to bog because i unplugged my vtec solenoid and oil pressure and wen i hit about 5000 rpms it started bogging...also bogging is getting worse.....it fucken sucks...sometimes my car will just shut off....like last night it shut off on the freeway wen i downshifted to 4th....i was doing about 60....so i kick started it in 4th gear and the car turned back on....but wen i tried to gas it there was absolutely no throttle response....the car was just decelerating so i downshifted to third....still decelerating, no throttle response....i thought that my throttle cable snaped or something....den after about 15 seconds or so it finally caught and the car had throttle response again and was driving like nothing ever happend....i also found out today that the injectors i have are obd0 and i am running a resistor box....and it smells like gas whenever i drive....i think im running super fucken rich....not for sure....but like i said smells like gasoline....and no i dont have any fuel leaks....well if anyone knows whats goin on here...let me know cuz i sure as hell dont....thanks...

your running in safe mode if it bogs at 5000 rpms. Safemode is not limpmode and its not loopmode do a search and you will see what im talking about. Good luck its probably a vaccum line plugged in wrong or something like that.
