how to lower a 87 crx
I have a 87 crx (dx) it has springs in the rear and stuts up front dose anyone know if i could put a strut spring combo on my car or if they make lowering struts for my car. any info would be helpfull thanks for you time
Well there are lowering springs and coil over kits for the rear, and stiffer torsion bars for the front, but the front is lowered by simply adjusting the torsion bar nut located under the car connecting the torsion tube to the chassis. Check your shop manual (surely you have one) for exact location and details.
dude! hell yea! 87 dx in the hizouse
welcome to the 3rd gen club, dude!
i got the same car as that.. so what the guy above me said, get lowering springs and adjust the torsion bars.. but be careful: its a 13 yr old car.. **** seizes up! you might have to buy replacements if you bust 'em
i had to do that on my back shocks.. the head of the friggin snapped off as i was switching them out! had to give it to a shop with a welder
good luck
what kinda mods do ya got?
what color is yo rex?

Why lower it when all it does is sit in the driveway
If it sits there much longer it is going to get stolen...don't come looking up here when its gone though

if you want to go even lower than the bolt that the other guy was talking about, you can actually take the torsion bar out and rotate that and drop the car even more. you just have to be careful with that cause you don't know how low it will be until you put everything back together and put the car on the ground. i made my old 85 crx si low enough to not be able to fit my foot under the front bumper skirt. but i also used it for autocrossing too, so it needed to be that low for better handling. there aren't any speedbumps in autocrossing.
Well, I don't think you were asking what mods I have, but I'll throw them out anyway.

Jack the front of the car up and place on jackstands. Place the jack under the front knuckle and jack up just enough to take the tension from the weight of the front knuckle off the torsion bar. Remove the rear cap on the torsion bar (two bolts). Use a hammer and dowel to bang the torsion bar out. This can be a b!tch on a car as old as this depending on how seized the torsion bar is from age. Once out, you can jack the knuckle up further and reinstall the torsion bar at the new (lower) ride height. Make sure you place the adjustment nut in the middle of it's travel on the bolt so that you have some adjustment. Repeat the same thing on the other side.
If you go too low, you will bottom the strut on large bumps so you have to play with it a bit to get it where you want. They are getting harder to find but you should be able to source stiffer torsion bars or you can use the torsion bars out of a 1st gen Integra, but note that they are longer so you will need the sleeves from that car and you will have to drill the frame rail for the bolts for the end caps.
