crx idle (what is up with these cars?)
just out of curiousity...... HOW IN THE !#@$ do you fix this problem:
so far this has happened on both crx's ive owned and is happening to one other crx that a friend drives, in addition to one that has since been fixed (although I never inquired with the person as to how it was done)
heres what happens. after my 88hf has been warmed and driving for about 10-15 min. it becomes possessed; raises its own idle to about 1000rpm and fluctuates to about 1500 before dropping back to 1000 again. the idle will then stay at 1000 and pull the same crap each time i am in a stopped position over and over again. 1000, 1500, 1000, 1500, up down up down etc... I am about ready to call in a shaman or witch- doctor to drive the evil spirits out of my car.
I know the honda repair shops in town would bend me over and stick it to me without a second thought over this one. I also hate allowing other people to touch my car so I would rather fix this myself. anyone got any ideas????????????

Everyone will most likely tell you the same but, It is your idle air control. I have changed out my third one. At some point I will have to go buy a new one when it bothers me enough.
hey i dunno if this is true but my buddy said that they had a recall for this problem...he said its some thing to do with the distributor...BUT he said that it would only be covered if the car is under 100k miles...My '89 accord does the exact same thing...but it doesnt bother me much...have any of u guys heard of this recall before...ill ask him again about it...i think he might of read it from CRX.org
that recall is for the ignitor and has nothing to do with fluctuating idle(that problem has to do with bouncing tach)
EACV or TPS...i also find that a carboned up TB can be the culprit sometimes...

CRX IDLE??? various things can do this.
check for a nice blue spark on your spark plugs. if you get an orange spark......that means......your spark plugs are about to go. make sure the gapping on the spark plugs are the manufactures spec. the gapping will sometimes affect the idle fluctuating. take my word for it...i've experienced it. also check for any cracks on your wires. when was the last time you did a tune up on it?? cracks on distributor cap?? bad fuel filter??bad EACV (idle control valve)or TPS?? dirty throttle body?? dirty injectors??all those things should be checked.
hope that helps.

it is the eacv on the back of the manifold deffinately make sure coolant lines are on it to 9 times out of 10 thats the problem goto a junkyard and th dx fits the si to the coolant lines are diff but it works on the si its small enough to borrow from the junkyard if u know wut im sayin they have 2 12 mill bolts
well, as far the sparkplugs go......i just changed them in hopes that it would fix the issue and it didnt. A full tune + injector cleaning was done three months ago. new o2 sensor. new spark wires. Although that would have little to do with it Ive completely removed the entire a/c system inside and out, but strangely enough when i started the a/c project this idle problem began. Go figure!!
distributer cap is ok.
i still have to check tps and eacv.
sigh.........all this heartache from such a poopy motor. when i swap i'm gonna stuff that damm 1.5 in a brown paper bag, leave it in front of someones doorstep and set it on fire.
whos got a match?

I bet it's a loose vacuum line. Has it always been like this? Or all of sudden? Check all the lines and make sure they haven't fallen out or anything. I was racing and the motor shifts hard and pulled the vacuum line out. All of the sudden sounds like cams, pysche!
i have a b16a in my crx. it does that when i first start it up. goes to 2000rpm revs. then after a minute or so starts goin up and down. but once i drive it and warm it up a bit more. it stops doin it.
It's definitely the idle controller. To make sure, when the car is idling, disconnect the idle controller. If the idle ceases to bounce up and down, then it's definitely an idle controller. It's easy to install, but buy a new one from the dealer because a used one is just waiting to go bad. I know 'cause it's happened to me.
