Alcohol injection....Inform me?
I'm curious about alcohol injection. I know a local guy here that is running it on his 800+ whp (forgot actual number) Turbo LS1 camaro. Runs 18psi on pump gas with the alcohol. He says it last for a good long while (the tank that is) and it ups the octane to a high enough level to keep from knocking on his app. Now, honestly this sounds like a better plan to me than water injection since water isnt combustable, and thus while it does cool is taking up space where air or fuel could go instead. Alcohol IS combustable on the other hand and I would imagine works by raising the octane level?
Alright, enough conjecture on my part. Inform me about it and its pro's and con's please

You hit the nail on the head. Straight water drastically lowers IAT's but is not as effective as methanol at making the most power since water is not combustible.
Pros: Sick power on pump gas, ultra-low IAT's and EGT's for increased reliability, no need for race gas unless you're running massive boost
Cons: Gotta make sure the tank is full, hard to find methanol sometimes
FWIW I ran it on my fairmont for a little while when I still had an undersized air-to-air intercooler on it. After the nozzle you could see condensation on the charge pipe, and I saw huge reductions in IAT's.

In my many months of reaserch I found out that denatured alcohol is better than methanol. its also safer since meth can posion you or induce cancer if its absorbed in your skin or inhaled. there is an alcohol forum at turbobuick.com and another at turbobuicks.com (two different sites) those are teh guys that practically perfected teh use of alcohol injection. go there and you will see wht denatured might be best.

I could run more boost and timing on methanol vs. denatured. Methanol is a TON cheaper than denatured, and I don't really worry about a little tank of methanol sitting in my engine bay giving me cancer when there's so much **** in the world that gives you cancer anyways. Ask Julio(Razor) about which is better, almost all of the guys on there have started to run Meth now that Meth compatible kits are coming out.
