vtec not kicking in

vtec not kicking in
ive got a dz16z6 in a 94 civic si hatch , i got it with 130 thousand miles on it and since i purchased it the vtec does not want to ingage what are some of the causes of that?

the vtec pressure switch sensor could have went bad or the vtec solenoid is bad or it just needs taking off the motor and cleaned(there is like a lil screen behind there and gets dirty) but normal if the solenoid is dirty is just bounces in and out of vtec (cuts in and out)
