what clutch do i need just as a stock replacement on a 88 4speed hatchback? are the 4 and 5 speeds interechangeble clutches or not? also, what is the tranny code for a 4 speed in an 88 hatch?

Use a 88 clutch.

ALL 88-91 Civics have the same tranny code, L3

 

cool, i just didn't know if 5 speed clutches differed from 4speed.

 

88's differ from 89-91's. 88's have a different input shaft spline. All D series cable tranny's are L3 - ZC, 4sp, 5sp, DX, HF, Si, LX, EX, std.....

 

dont bother get a 5 speed the 4 speed sucks i just got rid of mine its garbage but th e5 speed and 4 speed have 21 spline in 88 89-91 is 20
