the shop I went to did mine in 4th.... no wonder I was so bummed on the results. They said that it's the gear closest to 1:1 ratio and that was why. Thanks.

im pretty sure 4th gear isnt close to 1:1 i think 4th gear is 1:1 because it is a direct drive!

it is the closest to 1:1 than the other gears, on b18b's its 0.966 and b18c's its 1.034. i still love 3rd gear 'vtack' the best though

Just because it's in 4th gear doesn't mean you should see numbers alot lower than if dyno'ed in third. . .

How do you figure? GSR 3rd is 1.360 and 4th is 1.034. That's a difference in torque multiplication of approximately 24%, all else equal. So to make the math easy, if torque in 3rd is 100 lb/ft, then in 4th it would be 76 lb/ft. Plug it into the HP formula: HP=(Torque x RPM)/5252, then at 8000rpm, you would get 152.32 hp in 3rd and 115.77 in 4th, which reflects the 24% difference. That's a big difference! How's my math?

Mine was done in 4th. 3rd would slip and make the graph look poo.

do some esearch and you'll find almost everyone does their dyno runs in 4th. not on HT, but the big boys to. because 4th is closest to 1:1

It could. If you wanna compare apples to apples, and everyone else's teg was done in 3rd. Apparently the legit way is to do it in 4th, so I don't know why anyone would have it done in 3rd to begin with. So by my calculations, your car should lay down approx. 218 in 3rd. But knowing that isn't gonna make it go any faster, right?

yup.. same with mine. it was starting to come off the dyno.. they had like 2/3 guys sitting on the trunk to help keep the car on the rollers, and that still didnt even help. good thing they stopped when they did cuz that car was seriously ready to come off

This isn't right. The numbers won't be all that different between 3rd and 4th. There have been a lot of posts on this if you search around.

bleeeehck....stop regurgitating all the information you read and do some research yourselves guys. for all the guys who said whatever gear is closest to 1:1, they are correct. you also cant compare different dynos to other dynos. for example, a dynojet will have a stock b16 push something like 140-145 whp and 110 torque on average in 3rd gear, whereas a mustang dyno will read something like 80 hp and 180 torque in fourth gear on the same engine. most people dont even realize this. the same goes to any awd dyno. you cant compare the results.

then according to you, you might as well dyno in 1st for maximum power

the power is not gonna vary that much between 3rd or 4th gear runs. At most you'll have like 5hp difference, if that. and IMO 5hp is negigilbe.
