DX TRANNY
my tranny in my 89 crx hf is making a whining noise but it is full of grease. The tranny has 335,9xx mi. on but it dosent grind or anything. what I really want is a si tranny but a civic/crx is xtremly hard to find here where i live (southern ohio) and I dont want to buy one off ebay cause I needed it yesterday if you know what I mean. I know where there is a civic setting but it is a dx and I was wondering if the dx is lower geared than the hf? Or how good of a tranny are they?
P.S. my hf has a Z6 swap
and hf is tooooo high geared

yes, DX has lower gearing than HF - gears 1 thru 5 are the same as Si, but Si has a lower final drive - DX would be better than your HF - just be sure it isn't 88, or you would need different clutch
hey there im also from ohio(urbana-springfield area) im not sure where in our area you could get one but if you searched like ask jeeves or yahoo or something for the tranny your lookin for you could find it. they are out there you just have to search.
Have a Z6 in an 89 DX using 89 DX tranny. Around town at 50-60kph about 3rd gear, after 60kph to 4th, after 100kph to 5th. When moving fast, will find myself at 90-100kph and still in second (still haven't installed tach yet). As jlicrx says, nothing before '89.

when you say grease you really don't mean grease, do you? because if you have any thing over 30w oil (really you should only use HONDA M-T fluid but 30w works) you'll burn up the bearings and this would explain the whining noise but so would the high miles.
