I want to make a thread so everyone knows how to read how an engine is running without all sorts of gadget's and gizmo's. So everyone please share and make a very useful post. The only thing I know is that white snowy spark plugs = running lean, and im not even sure if that is right.

Iv seen plugs extremely white, what does that mean?

correct me if i am wrong...doesnt that mean lean a/f if the plugs are white?

 

You want to concentrate on deep down color of the porcelyn, and the tips of the plugs. Usually a whitsh brown is ok, but the only real way to check it go wide open and shut the car off and just out and check them. Because anyother way you are just getting a cruising reading.

 

Well for instance, my freinds plugs are bright white all over. Not like a normal white, the white is very bright and completely all over.
