Default gorilla andonized red lug nuts

i just got my gorilla lug nuts, when i installed them the torque wrench scratched off some of the andonized red paint? so now you can see the bare metal. wondering if there are any tips to installing them and tightening them without scratching off the paint?

Use 6 sided when possible. Other than that, nothing you can do.

What I would do, is wrap one layer of electrical tape around the lugs, covering the surface-- then wrench away.

that's what i was thinking, but i don't have any thin tape, i need to buy some cuz my eletrical tape is too thick.. i'll give that a try.

damn that sucks that they scratch. you would think that they would be able to handle normal use.

exactly what i'm saying, and i thought gorilla's were top of the line? i got them for 16.00 from brandsportinc.com and they can be used with OEM wheels. so i sorta see why they scratch even with the lightest pressure

At least they haven't faded to 'bright' pink like my Spoon lugs!

i can vouch that gorilla lug nuts hold up great. i had those cheap open ended ones that come free with rims sometimes and those stripped right out (without air tools).

I owned black gorilla lugs on my Eg. I was going to look for a red set for my Ek, but after reading this thread. I'll just get the black ones again. That site is not working. Where else can I scoop a set up fairly cheap?

Thanks!

I have RAYS lug nuts and they do the same thing. Here is what i found that works best. I found that the METAL- AGAINST- METAL is whats causing the paint to strip off, the plastic bag acts like a barrier between the tire iron and the lug.

1. Grab the tire iron
2. Find a garbage bag ( thinner the plastic the better)
3. Place the bag over the open end of the tire iron
4. Take your finger and push the postion of the bag thats covering the opening into the opening of the tire iron
5. Place the tire iron over the lug ( with the bag covering the inside of the opened end)
6. The bag will protect the METAL- AGAINST- METAL contact, and will protect the paint from bieng stripped off.

This is a time consuming process, will take twice as long to do cuz u need to take 2 steps b4 u remove the lug but it will solve the problem of the paint stripping off and will keep them looking new.
